What happened to Dixie Chicks? They're country band right?

On March 10, 2003, during a London concert, 9 days before the March 19, 2003 invasion of Iraq, lead vocalist Maines told the audience: "We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States (George W. Bush) is from Texas". The positive reaction to this statement from the British audience contrasted with the negative reaction including boycotts that ensued in the U.S., where the band was assaulted by talk-show conservatives, while their albums were discarded in public protest.

It's funny because back in 2003 they received this backlash but now no one would care because more people opened their eyes and realized that was a useless war.

What's so funny is I know many veterans who felt the same way as Nathalie, and I dare someone to question their patriotism I also think it's funny when certain media figures go overseas to talk smack about our current President, the same media types so quick to condemn the Dixie Chicks are either agreeing or suddenly silent. Hell, we have certain media figures openly talking about how "evil" and "destructive" our current President is, going so far to insinuate he is a terrorist or supports terrorism, on popular "news" programs, where is the outrage now? It's all politics, as usual.

Anyway, while I think their country music career is dead, I think that rock album they made afterward was well received.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

They are actually a pretty good band, or were. They were one of the few "modern" country acts I could tolerate.

I'm not from the US, so I never really cared about country music. But I'm very much anti-war and I appreciate artists like them, who are not blinded by patriotism and not afraid to speak out on important issues even if it would hurt their image.

What Ariana did was extremely rude. Not only did she lick donuts other people where about to buy and eat, no. By doing so, she also showed how disrespectful she is towards basically everyone and everything. Disgusting. Don't try to excuse her by saying 'OMG just because she licked donuts'. It's not about the donuts, it's about the basics of how to behave in society. She touched food with her tongue that wasn't hers, food that was on sale. While children starve somewhere else, Ariana goes around licking donuts because she can. So mature. Not to mention her comments afterwards, who are also rude. Fame twisted her already, and I hope she wakes up now and learns from her mistake.

It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.

The Dixie Chicks only demographic were conservative white republicans. Their comments directly affected their demographic. All of this nonsense with Ariana Grande on the other hand is totally unwarranted/unexpected/unnecessary/etc.

Not people taking this incident WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. PFFSpJ1.jpg

No. Aren't you guys aware of the current racial tension in our country? The deaths of people due to hate crimes? As a public figure, specially one appealing to younger people, the comment she made is extremely irresponsible and dangerous. Her actions should, indeed, be taken very seriously. I hope she learns from this and grows up, and that people in denial wake up, too.
