Wolfee Donuts has now been downgraded by Riverside County's Department of Environmental Health from an "A" rating to a "B" rating following the apparent licking incident with Ariana Grande. After receiving a complaint, the department visited the shop on Wednesday for a routine visit, and found some violations, including not protecting food from contact with the public. The shop has one week to make the corrections, but will not be closed as a result.

Pretty poor that the shop has to be investigated over something that customers did, which wasn't actually the staff's fault. Maybe it's just US standards but I didn't realise there was a law against keeping food open to the public because I've seen bakery goods out in the open in a ton of bakeries over here. I understand how it could be a health code violation but I guess you just have to hope people won't be so disgusting. Celebrities really do get away with everything.

Ariana's impact :emma: Although this is a good thing really, people deserve safer food, away from salivary contact from strangers

Food has to be behind glass or in a plastic container to prevent idiotic people from doing what Ariana did.

The complaint was that they leave food out in the open, not that Ariana spit on it.  Everywhere you can buy prepared food in the US has to protect that food in a case or a box :flop: Bad things can happen to the to the food other than fits from petulant starlets. It's not her fault that the US has high food safety standards  :smh:

Is that the health code all across America, though? In the UK, in most bakeries, it's kept behind a glass container but there are plenty of bakery aisles in supermarkets and maybe some small, local bakeries that keep food out in the open. Is this a health code violation? Or is it just the case in America?

In the US, to my knowledge, keeping food out in the open is a health code violation. If it's out, it's behind a large glass container where the employee reaches in to serve the food to the customer with gloves or a long utensil. It's also a health code violation because of dust, flies, etc.

Well, how come the place previously held an A health rating? Keeping food out in the open must have been deemed ok then. This incident therefore alerted the standards agency to the idea that maybe it wasn't the most hygenic option, so they're re-thinking their grade. Just makes it seem that it's not a general health code, that's all.
