For me it was a bit over the top

"And truthfully the lie is much more honest, because I invented it."

That whole intro is explaining why she's being over the top.

I honestly think that the scene where Gaga is in the clinic, her acting is really good. I think some people say her acting is bad because the scene is hard to watch. But its hard to watch because her acting is so good and real.

No, it's hard to watch because he script is horrible and awkward.

the script is complex and super pretentious. On top of that, she sounds like shes on painkillers while narrating it all. I get it was "the point" but not for a pop music video, srry sis.

That being said, I still think the video has better direction than Judas, You & I and TEOG

im not saying people dont understand or get it. Im saying that sometimes when something is uncomfortable to watch or experience, people cant pinpoint the reason why and just assume its because the quality is bad.

I think the opposite is true. if you convince someone that a sad experience is real through your acting, its hard to watch but because you KNOW the acting is good. Here, however, you are extrapolating. fans and people who dislike the acting do so because they think the acting is bad. I hold a similar opinion. I think she delivers it okay because it's not really acting; she's just retelling her story with a different setting. What makes it come off as bad is the bad writing of the script. The hospital bed scene is so badly written that it's cringe-worthy.

For me the acting was bad because it did not seem realistic.

But it did match the scene... there was a sort of disconnection between her and the nurse and also the bed was in the middle of a large room, not a real hospital so that felt disconnected too.

So maybe the acting was purposely done with a melodramatic and disconnected feeling.

I am sure she did it the way she wanted it done.

THIS. I think that besides the fact that the script is bad, there is no real interaction between the nurse and Gaga, so it just sounds like Gaga is reading her lines off a script to a wall.

I think that was the point. The nurse didn't exist when Gaga went through that scene in real life. Gaga added her in to her memory to make the memory more pleasant. In reality there was nobody there to comfort her and take care of her after going through all that trauma.  There is a disconnect because she is halfway between her fantasy and the reality of what happened.

Gaga wasnt pretending...she was REinacting what really happened to her..

Therefore... How can she poorly portray her personal experience? :smh:

Her acting is whatever, I don't think she seems particularly great at it but its hard to tell when all we've ever seen is her act out bad dialogue. What springs to mind when thinking about the video being cringeworthy though isnt her acting so much as the way the video is edited, the way it totally doesn't fit the music imo, the 12 minute concept, theres just so much about it I don't like.

I have no idea why people would say that because she happens to actually be a good actress.

But I guess the explanation is actually quite simple - singers turned actors are very often bad comedians, and Gaga being quite the easy target, people don't really care whether she's actually a good actress or not.

I totally see where you are coming from, the script in that part could have been polished more. Good point!
