This is crazy. You can't even think straight when you are severely depressed. There is no way she should be allowed to make that decision.

I'm not sure if the full article mentions it, but the one in the other thread says how she has battled with depression for a large majority of her life and has tried all sorts to help herself but she's done with it.

I remember last year, I wanted to move here because I wanted to get euthanized: I was going through depression. Theres times I wish I would be able to here in the USA, but meh. Not as often or as badly as I wanted to last year.

Euthanasia is a complicated question, biased by morals and beliefs, we are not gonna solve this today guys.

Doesn't matter if she's "battled depression for a large majority of her life", Benajmin. Killing people with severe depression is not an acceptable solution for their problems.

With new medicines being invented every day I still don't think it's an acceptable solution. She can't see a way out and I understand that but the specialists should know better. It's just incredibly sad.

I don't like it, but it's not me so what can you do? Praying she finds peace.

I really agree with this.

The only time when I have my doubts about euthanasia is when somebody is in prison... on the one side a punishment is there to be learnt from, and if somebody dies there's nothing learnt from it and nothing to reintegrate, but on the other hand if it's life-long prison it shouldn't really matter.

To the people discussing euthanasia: remember that a life is just a life. It's meaningless, and as soon as you die there's nothing left - you're as lifeless as you were pre-birth (or pre-maternity, if you believe that). That's why I believe assisted suicide is a good way to die peacefully with everybody around you understanding, knowing and supporting.

That's nonsense, she's perfectly healthy. Assisted suicide is meant for those who are terminally ill.

What, if someone grabs a gun and puts it in their mouth or stands on the edge of a high building preparing to jump, you say "okay, that's your choice, I respect it"? No, you take preventative measures and get them the appropriate help. People in depression with suicidal thoughts shouldn't be encouraged. It's a mental illness, that means they can't think straight about these things. Turning this woman into a pile of worm food is not a solution for chronic depression. This woman's doctors are imbeciles.

How can you call a depressive and suicidal person healthy otherwise is beyond me.  I would be curious to know the life condition of Laura,  not questioning her decision though.
