hmm 979
What ground did it break? Why do you guys actually think she is so famous? There are great singers who dress in drag, it's not a new concept. It's because it's a hot guy and a hot girl at the same time. And people love attractiveness. And something about that rubs me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for her as an individual. It's the greater implications of her popularity that I don't like. To me, 2011 Adele is more groundbreaking. She's famous because she won the biggest music event on the planet being voted for by dozens of countries including voters from a tele-audience of almost 200million and juries of music professionals. Some of the votes were definitely from a pro-lgbt political stances and others an anti-russian stance but I really doubt many (if any) voted because they considered her attractive Her music isn't ground-breaking, but it's interesting, catchy and entirely listenable - added to the fact that Conchita herself is charismatic and people feel drawn to her. She might not be ground-breaking in terms of her actual style, but she certainly is in bringing the issue to an entire continent, if not the globe. was the first in the trans umbrella to do it... That's not actually true, Dana int'l won in drag in 1998 (for Israel) and later underwent trans surgery
Kayla 7,595
Excuse me but this is very groundbreaking I love how even Conchita's voice doesn't sound completely male or female.
Melech 9,900
I love how even Conchita's voice doesn't sound completely male or female. true. A german newspaper named her as the most influential European artist. When you follow her she was at gay prides in Cologne or Tel Aviv. She were in TV in France and Poland. uo111 5,265
The first bold is entirely conjecture Ive never heard this anywhere personally... in fact most of the people ive heard of are repulsed by the dissonance of her looking both masculine and feminine rather than "double attracted" to it (though maybe the gays are ) There is something to be said about someone who is found attractive despite not conforming to 1 strict gender expression (yes even in drag ) she's polarizing, and in an ideal world, she wouldn't be. Also, her original fame came from the fact that she won Eurovision in spite of how society *cough* Russia *cough* would view her, and was the first in the trans umbrella to do it... not because she was "insanely attractive" or anything I think shes made some sort of impact and for good reasons at the end of the day. She's famous because she won the biggest music event on the planet being voted for by dozens of countries including voters from a tele-audience of almost 200million and juries of music professionals. That's not actually true, Dana int'l won in drag in 1998 (for Israel) and later underwent trans surgery The point is she wouldn't have been voted through if she wasn't attractive. Not that she only won because she is attractive.Maybe I should have been more clear. That's pretty obvious to me at least. It's not like other talented transs-xuals or drag performers haven't had national (or international) stages before (and lost). I'm happy for her. She is popular, attractive, and represents a shift in public opinion over time. it's a pretty big step for society, but calling her revolutionary is a slap in the face to everyone who came before her. And let's not bring Russia into rational discussions.

And let's not bring Russia into rational discussions. I don't know what you mean by this but Eurovision has always been politicised and watching the voting sequences reveals a lot about political alliances in Europe. Russia's actions (both their propaganda laws and annexation of Crimea) had an impact on the contest in the past two years, but there's no point going into that. Had she been Swedish, or Irish in the 1990s - she could have appeared in a cardboard box and probably still won. Anyone who follows Eurovision presumably already know of Conchita's predecessors not to make sweeping statements of her being the ground-breaker in the industry

You do however annoy me particularly in these "" responses you're making which are incredibly transparent. Like as far as this forum goes few users make my eyes roll like you do, when I see you've responded to anything ive posted im in for some cliche-wannabe socially conscious nonsense.
