Luc 4,776
I think Obama's pretty popular overseas because he's a likeable guy, more so than popular for his policies or presidential run. They also like how the US is acting a little less like the saviour of the world that has to set everything right... And he's not blocking the modernizing of American society (marihuana legalized, homos-xuality accepted, etc.) He doesn't seem like the smartest guy to me but his ideals are good. He accepts the place the US has in a world where China, the EU, Russia and the US have the most power instead of the US, Japan and the EU.

He might not be the most progressive president ever, but in the eyes of a lot of the world he's done quite a lot to create a more positive society for America. I don't know much about politics, let alone US politics, but Obama seems alright. I might be a lot tougher on him if I were a US citizen, though, but from a foreigner's perspective he's a decent president.
Morphine Prince 109,649
He has a very good foreign policy. I mean Bush alienated a lot of people and wasn't very like-able. Besides that Obama tried to take care of ur strange healthcare system by turning into the health systems that Europe has. And he caught Bin Laden, legalizing gay marriage and so on. And then of course he has a very good sense of humor and is very charismatic, not something u could say about Bush..:awkney:The foreign policy and charisma makes sense. But you are mistaken about the last two things. By my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), many European countries have "universal healthcare" paid for by taxes. That's not what the ACA is. It's still people paying private insurance companies. Some people are even paying more money now than they did on their pre-ACA plan. Healthcare isn't affordable if you aren't below the poverty line, basically. My family is personally paying more money. BUT I'm happy people with pre-existing medical conditions can now get a plan and that poorer people have more options. And he didn't legalize gay marriage. The Supreme Court did by settling a case that's been going on for years, therefore deeming SSM bans unconstitutional. He did kill Osama though, even if we don't have the complete evidence. If Osama wasn't dead they would have posted a video just to embarrass America tbh. But ur right healthcare is in a way 'free' (not totally but it's nothing compared to America) because we all pay taxes for it. Also Obama didn't start a new war and actually withdrew a lot of soldiers, besides that he's a little more humble about America (like previous posts said), he is very reluctant to get involved whereas in the past that used to be different hence the reason why people hated the US so much. Well, in the US 17% of the economy is spent on healthcare (by the government) compared to 9% in the Netherlands. We also have private insurance companies, in fact the US system was inspired by the Dutch's because it was the most cost effective (and best healthcare) for the government and still allowed for some free market..Obama basically paved the way for gay marriage and convinced many people. It could've very well been 4-5 or 3-6 if it hadn't been for him. He also paved the way for a more liberal approach to marihuana and contributes to American society becoming less focused on religion (eventhough he still mentions God). They are instructed on what to believe. This is my problem with Islamic governments. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Economy 52,842
Um Obama isn't a socialist. He's actually incredibly centrist. hes always talking about raising corporate taxes (which the US already has one of the highest in the world at 35%), raising taxes on the rich, him having come up with Obama care, raising minimum wage, raising spending etc etc etc sounds socialist to me!!!! Although im not an extreme Capitalist. Some of his ideas i supported (like higher minimum wage for instance)... but everything adds up, and he seems very left winged even for a democrat

The corporate tax rate is misleading, in that it includes many loopholes and tax breaks/subsidies for certain industries. Obamacare is not socialist. It isn't even close to a single payer system for all, which is the hallmark of socialist health care. He's actually pretty conservative. See: Continued drone strikes/military presence in the middle east, domestic spying, Wall Street.hi tax rate with many modification means the gov. Is trying to control the direction of buisnees and hence the economy .... This has lead to the current state of confusion over taxes, who owes what and the imbalance between large corporations and small entrepreneurs. The American middle class originally gained it strength from individual business. The economic disparity between the top 2% and the rest is a direct result of gov, policy IMO. Simplifying the tax code to a flat system, eliminate loopoles, give the bottom end a chance. I think the overall economy would imrove and increase the overall tax revenue once the the shock of change wears off. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Opposition wouldnt let him. You're right there; all of those things would require legislation first. It would've been interesting to see what he could've/would've done with a liberal Congress. What he does control directly as POTUS is the executive branch, i.e. enforcement agencies and foreign policy. And in both of those roles, he has been remarkably centrist, even conservative.
