Britney & Tayor Remain Frontrunners For Super Bowl Halftime Show

I'm sure a lot of it might be to do with controversy. Gaga has bled to death on stage, has had a song called Judas and has recently had a cancelled video featuring R.Kelly directed by Terry Richardson where she appears naked.
After Janet's superbowl performance they are a bit careful of controversial performers. Madonna was finally asked in 2012 and she had the latest controversy with her guest M.I.A giving the finger.

Beyonce is pretty safe, Bruno Mars is pretty safe, Katy Perry is pretty safe. Someone like Taylor Swift also seems like the ideal candidate, very popular country girl with a lot of hits.

Gaga has swiftly changed her image since C2C. Since she has performed at the Oscars and European Games opening ceremony she has shown she can be an appropriate performer for these types of events, but I don't think she will be the go to option for a couple of years.

Katy is not a good performer and still she managed to deliver a very decent show this year. This said, I don't care. I'm sure that whoever gets it, he/she will do a good job

I am not sure how theatrical Taylor show can be, I never go to hers.

But without all that jazz, she is already draws audience.

Taylor has enough hits and career long enough, I'm indifferent towards her tho

and Britney is just not able to do it...

Poker Face, Just Dance, Paparazzi, LoveGame, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Telephone, Born This Way, Judas, The Edge Of Glory, Yoü And I, Applause, Do What U Want (are recent, and even Just Dance and Poker Face are recent, 7 years isn't that old)... This isn't enough for you? Superbowl setlist are usually 6/9 songs. Gaga already have 13 hits, and she'll have more with LG5.

I assume they will announce Britney and they will use a body double -like they often do-  and the body double will sing pre-recorded vocals of britney that belong 30% to Britney and 70% sung by Myah Marie

For superbowl they usually take artists that had recent world-hits and are hot at the moment. By 2016, Applause will be about 2 1/2 years old - too old to be considered a recent hit. Do What U Want - not big enough of a hit. Also Lady Gaga at a sports event... I think she doesn't suit there anyway and most sport fans will not like the idea of her performing there...

That's the same reason why Britney cannot perform (no recent hits).

Don't you think that people wouldn't of liked the idea of singing The Sound of Music at the Oscars?  Look what happened there.  I think Gaga would be a great choice as long as she would have something released during SB time.  However, that isn't always the case.  They've had older artists perform without any new hits.  Even Beyonce didn't have a current hit to rely on.  Gaga could perform Pokerface, Just Dance, EOG, You and I (apparently the Dad favorite), etc.  I'd love to see Sting or Stevie join her on stage as well to show off her piano skills.  When planning something for this type of audience you just need to pull the tricks that make people like Gaga.

We'll, not really because the last time Taylor did promo for Diet Coke was over a year ago and they backed out as promoters of the tour at the last minute. So I'm not saying it's going to be her but there has been some distancing

What are you even talking about? In the last two decades, they've had performers such as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, Tony Bennett, ZZ Top, Smokey Robinson, Tina Turner, Aerosmith, Sting, Paul McCartney, Prince, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and The Who. Even Madonna and Beyonce (recently in the 2010s) hadn't had a hit song in the past three years, when they performed.

You are way off on this one! There is not some rule about recent hits, as you can see from the history of performers.
