I want to see what Trump has -  He has said he may run for President before, but this is the first time he has carried through. I hope this is interesting.

Whispering

Trump's comments, concerning immigration, during his speech declaring his run for President:

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They are bringing d--gs, they are bringing crime, they are rapists...and some...I assume, are good people."

No offense to supporters, but I have no faith in a third Bush running this country. First one was eh, second one was unbearable, and third? No thanks.

Trump, although he's a successful businessman I just feel like his whole campaign is some sort of joke. I can't take him seriously after his crazy comments and the like, but maybe he's what this country needs in the sense of commerce.

I need to educate myself further, I don't want to be in that boat of "I'm leaning Democrat but hate everything Republican" so luckily I have a year to weigh the options.

then ur a standout cause 80% of ppl on GGD seem to think everything about republicans sucks and everything about democratics is fantastic...

Theres pros and cons to everything... and no politician is stupid on everything or good on everything and as such its not as black and white as that... Its rediculous to think 1 party is fantastic and 1 party terrible

Personally in economic matters ive always sided more with Republicans but then on Social matters more with Democrats. Here in Canada we have "PC" parties in most Provinces which stands for (Progressive Conservatives) which is basically progressive in social matters but conservative in economic matters

I think the US could use a party like that. Fusing together the best of Republicans and Democrats. At least in my view anyway :green:

I'm trying really hard to not be the 80% (THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING IN THE 80%), but every day I hear something that Trump says or whatever and it makes me not stand the guy (with his apparent suing of Univision because he insulted an entire nation and the channel refuses to air his beauty pageant). I mean nobody is perfect, but I think majority of the republican candidates are using their platforms to just bash the other side at this point instead of providing solutions. Like what are you going to do if you get into office? Besides mudslinging and trying to repeal Obamacare?

Have to look at the issues you hold dear to your heart, and for me currently it's a Democratic thing. However, as I said, I cannot make that official until 2016 but that's just me.

Mexico is so against anything related to him after those coments, they are not even going to air or support miss universe this year after those ignorant comments

lol i was talking about parties not individual runners. I actually dont know Donald Trumps plans or speeches well enough to judge him good or bad

One thing is for sure, Democrats have raised taxes on rich WAY too much. A 35% tax rate (plus whatever States add) for example is driving so many US companies overseas. Even American icons like Burger King left (now headquartered in my Country Canada)

Its actually funny cause when you compare now, America has higher income tax rates, Corporate Tax Rates, Investment taxes etc than here in Canada and Americans say were socialist :rip:

anyway not to be rude, but if i were an investor looking to open up a new business you can bet the US wouldnt be my first choice.

I do not support extreme Capitalism. Some regulation to maintain order and good ethics, and some higher taxes on rich for redistribution may be beneficial

but i think the US democrats are taking it too far. Look America for decades crtiticized Canada for being too socialist now it seems like by most measures the US is the one becoming quite socialist

i think entitement programs need revisions to see where tweeks can be made, Military needs to be cut big time, and retirement age needs to be raised (i can give u a huge list as to why we need to raise retirement age)

It's weird how someone could think the US is taking socialism too far... Not when education isn't free and quite bad (lack of general knowledge..), when high incomes pay about 36% in income taxes, when the 0.1% earns about 90% of all money, when elections can basically be bought, when military spending is 4% of gdp, when almost everybody has a gun and police has the best of the best weapons as if they were foghting nazis in the second worldwar. US workers have no rights - when you're sick you only get paid for a short while, many in the US work 2 or 3 jobs (way over 40 hours a week), parental and maternal leave barely exist, people can randomly get fired - welfare is small, minimum wage is extremely low in many states, business priorities above people priorities (like reducing the amount of toxic pollution and limiting the increased greenhouse has effect).

The US is capitalism at its fullest extent, with Obama trying his hardest to fix the whole society. I'm glad Obama is president for 2 terms, because he actually is a very good president. I dislike Hillary, because I think she puts businesses above people and is too conservative. Bernie Sanders would really make a good president imo, and he's also very experiemced in politics

not all aspects of it are

but taxes are. Corporate taxes are high... Top income brackets with state taxes are about 42% to 44% which i guess is ok but hardly capitalist

Obama care is a pretty socialist move. Theres also ppl who dont wanna buy insurance cuz it doesnt make economic sense to them but they must in some circumstances if im not mistaken

they have all sorts of social programs from medicaid, to disability, welfare and food stamps for ppl that are poor. And poor ppl hardly pay any taxes in the US

Some aspects of the US are still capitalist but in many retrospects theyve turned quite social

and military is a seperate issue has nothing to do with socialism or capitalism

Obama is a socialist I believe and tries to do as much as possible for the people as he possible can with the centrist Democrats and far-right Republicans. The poor indeed don't pay that much in the US, because they barely earn anything. The top 1% of the people has more wealth than the bottom 70%.

The US is slowly turning a bit, just a tiny bit, more social, but most aspects aren't.

well their wages are too low... id so support minimum wage hikes there...

But if your talking about taxing the rich, thats not gonna make a difference on "income". when we say the top 1% make 70% of Americas income thats raw income before taxes. In other words simply taxing them wont change that issue

Look at My Country... Our Corporate taxes are 15% vs 35% in the US

Our top income bracket is 29% vs 36% in the US

Yet we have LESS income gap than in the US with lower taxes on the rich while still maintaining better finances (military needs to be cut in US). We do have higher minimum wages however. I think thats more effective to help bottom incomes rather than simply taxing the rich and trying to redistribute it

Both are effective. You have to take into consideration that the US has way more people (also if you take into consideration the population, I think) who earn a lot lot of money which makes the income inequality bigger. The US also has a worse education system, and more competition for the low-skilled jobs because of mass immigration from Latin America.

And I was talking about wealth, not income. Ofcourse the goal is to minimize income inequality post-taxes, and the most efficient ways to do that are by raising income taxes to be more progressive (which, again, doesn't make businesses less likely to come to the US). The ultimate goal is to reduce wealth inequality which can hardly be achieved in a globalised world. In the end it's about what people have, not what people earn. I also don't support inherited wealth, because I think that you shouldn't be born wealthy. That's why I support Thomas Piketty, who proposes a global wealth tax to both stop wealth inequality, make society more egalitarian instead of elitarian and doesn't simply make people move their money to Swiss banks, like it would be the case if it was only on a local scale.

i dont think population is the issue. you can have alrge population and good economy or low population and bad economy.

As for immigration we actually have a higher yearly amount of immigrants than the US in proportional basis adding 0.7% of the population every year. Thats actually a huge amount, over 1 lifetime the population doubles just from immigration alone

Immigrants also help the construction sector and housing market. And heck, the US Housing market is still wobbly, one of the sectors that hasnt recovered greatly and immigration if anything helps. Most Countries doing well economically have growing populations not shrinking ones

and u say it doesnt make buisinesses less likely to come to the US., I still dont get your reasoning behind that. If you have a high corporate tax rates and not the most competitive general bisiness tax rate, why on Earth would you as an investor ever think of opening your business there????

Only people who dont wanna move and wanna open a small business end up still opening in America anyway...

But companies headquarters are moving out of the US like crazy, one of the big topics on congress is Corporate inversions and what to do about it.

Like i said, high taxes do discourage investment. Maybe that wasnt the case 150 years ago when economies were more domestic but were in a global economy now. U have to come up with global standards if u wanna be able to raise taxes without businesses leaving. So far no such standards have been implemented
