I guess they asked her to join and when she heard she wouldn't get paid they tried to negotiate something... and they said no, so she had to go public about it. The power of media :P

Omg I never, like NEVER expected this to happen. I guess Apple really wants Taylor on board with their streaming service...

Good point. But the thing I don't understand is why is she joining Appe but not Spotify? I don't really think they are going to pay her more or something tbh, so I don't get it.

So basically Apple were already paying artists higher royalties than normal to compensate for the 3 month trial and now they're ALSO paying for the trial now too?

Apple Music seems to be the best paying platform there is now, so there's no reason for Taylor Swift NOT to join because she is not going to get much of a better deal than this in terms of streaming and it would send the wrong message because yes her sales are good but smaller artists need things like streaming to be heard and Apple Music is the fairest platform out there it seems

Because Apple holds iTunes and almost everything that's related to digital selling music, so Taylor doesn't want to lose that, she needs to stay in good terms with them, even if that means joining their new service.

Also, Apple is paying higher royalties

She doesn't like that Spotify has a free tier (neither do I tbh :emma: ) but apparently would've been willing to keep her stuff there if it was available only to premium users. Spotify declined at the time but Muse do have a premium only song at the moment on the platform so I'm not sure if that's a one-off or a sign of changing moods.

WAIT so there was a three month trial for customers and Taylor could have just assumed she wasn't going to get paid? That would actually seem a lot more logical.

Anyway I'm glad it is sorted and everyone is happy.
