Taylor Swift posts open letter to Apple Music (And exposes them)

She and her team are smart, I give her that, but to say this is about other artists is a little too much don't you think?

I mean, if you get your song on Apple service and it becomes popular, you won't get paid the first three months yes, but after that you will start getting paid quite well if I'm not mistaken. So to "give away" three months for the better future, I don't see why not?

She removed ALL HER MUSIC from Spotify who PAID HER and other ARTISTS every dollar, and how can she explain that? Did she do that because of other artists?

Of course not, she and her team want money and this is the way you can get it, without giving your fans or people the oportunity to listen to your music through a streaming service and deleting every single video on youtube of your songs/performances. Please Taylor.

Oh I thought TIDAL artists were here for revolutioning culture and giving people better ways to listen to music!

Now apple gives another way for people to listen but you don't want cuz you ain't getting money for 3 months???

omg poor her. HOW WILL SHE PAY HER BILLS THOSE 3 MONTHS.

More like she exposed herself (once again).

She is embarrasing. Tbh.

Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction?

Realistically, it is kinda crappy of Apple to not pay the musicians for the first three months. However, obviously the artist/label is able to refuse joining the service, and I'm sure that Apple would allow them to join after the 3 month period.

SO, if you're an artist and you want to join Apple Music but don't want to miss out on 3 months of payment, join after the trial period. If you're an artist that supports the idea and can afford to hold off on being paid for the 3 month trial period as Apple tries to reach more people by offering that incentive, be a part of the program from the beginning.

That's a good point actually, perhaps detailing a bit more on her motives

I'd still say there's a very important message in what she's saying and there's plenty of situations (some have been detailed here and I can think of others in how I use Spotify premium) in which the 3 months trial won't pay off for the smaller artists and it's their decision whether or not to take that risk, just like it's apple's decision to undergo this 3 month trial period to take spotify's user base. If they do take those risks, it's up to them to bear the brunt of the profit losses. Indie artists most likely can't handle that, Apple presumably can

I have. And I don't believe what she is saying. If younger artists see this as something bad for them, they should be the ones complaining and quiting it. That's it.

Spotify was paying to everyone, why did she quit there?

Why I don't see thousands of new artists complaining? Why do they put their music on spotify? She is the one complaining. She is the ****ing one deleting all the videos from her tour on youtube (take a few seconds to laugh at this because it is hilarious. Such a protection for new artists yas).

Gladly my fav is Gaga, the one who gives all her albums away for FREE through streaming services, youtube or an app.:whitney:

Probably not thousands but the evidence is definitely there :emma: That we don't see them is exactly Taylor's presented point (whether or not it's genuine is a different matter but it's not important for that).

I agree to some extent but she's taking it too far, however Apple gives big names free iPhones, as well as free Apple Watches. :rip: Don't even try it Taylor.

Her actions seem to be justified but honestly, it comes off as if she's hungry for money and vanity. The 3 months trial is a one time thing, there's no way around it. She keeps making up stupid excuses, TIDAL has a one month trial option but yet 1989 isn't available there. The only thing she exposed is herself and her need for money. jE6ii0NHkn8mE.png

What would make sense is if Apple said the artist/label/writers/etc. won't be compensated for those 3 months, but AFTER those 3 months the money they get from subscribers and ad revenue they will use to retroactively pay them.

That way instead of being like "Yeah, we'll use your music to get people to sign up and you won't get paid for 3 months," which is ****ty, they can say "We understand you will be losing money as you join us on this endeavor for the first three months, but we will give you the money you deserve when the app takes off."

And if the app doesn't take off, both parties recognize that it was a risk.

then they shouldn't join.

that's it

but taylor? She is a well known artist who has enough money to have THE PRIVILEGE to give her music away for "free" (lmao Apple music is not even free) and make a lot of people listen to it. She has the chance to make her art arrive to a bigger audience.

I haven't listened to her last album and I buy music. But I like to listen to an album on Spotify, and if I like it I buy a physical version. So I am not buying it.

Please, again, she is deleting videos of her tour on youtube :toofunny: is there something more greedy than that?

1989 is apparently on Tidal and even though it has a trial, the company is still paying the rights-holders what they earn during that period as far as I know

You seem to want to turn it into a discussion of whether or not Taylor is greedy, disingenuous and whatever. Maybe that's the more GGD-appropriate discussion (or maybe that is the topic in reality) but I'm not going into that as I don't find it a very interesting topic, despite not liking her music :emma:

I understand that, but I still have this feeling that she is doing this because they don't pay her enough and because her team made clear calculations (which is not that hard at all tbh) how they are going to make more money by not making her music available on streming services.

I may be wrong but that's how I see it.

It is totally fair if she doesn't want to put her music there. I have no problem with that, but don't try to paint it as if you were doing some revolution for the others when you are just taking care your money. Lol.

Nope, you can't play 1989 on Tidal.
