I understand your point of view, but after refusing to boycott Israel last summer and being all proud to perform "after the war", I learned not to expect much from her when it comes to world politics. She's not that type sadly or she's misinformed, I think she would perform anywhere where she isn't banned.

You can't compare Israel to countries like Russia or Azerbaijan. :smh:

The conflict there in Israel in not one sided. Boycotting it would be totally unnecessary. (especially sad for the large Monster community there, which have nothing to do with the politics of their country).

Calling her misinformed, because she doesn't have your opinion is laughable :lmao:

Better to think that she's misinformed than heartless, don't you think? :usrs:

The bombing of Gaza was very much one sided with 70(mostly soldiers) vs 2200(mostly civilians) dead plus destroyed infrastructure while others were chilling on the beach and watching bombs from the hill.

Annie Lennox and many other artists are more informed, it shows from their talks about the conflict while Gaga was silent. She should boycott apartheid regime in Israel and I can very much compare it to any other regime which doesn't care about human rights.

I'm done with you. Not gonna talk with someone who's using laughing smiley while talking about killing and oppressing of thousands of people who don't belong to the "chosen nation".

I didn't laugh about the conflict there. I laughed about the fact that you put your (one sided) opinion as norm.

You Israel hate is getting delusional.

I'm also done with you. Not wanting Monsters in Israel to see Gaga. Well, I guess you can say that with being priviliged to see Gaga in Scandinavia, huh?

The people =/= the regime, you fail to see that.

Performing the opening of a sports event within a country that oppresses basic human rights is not spreading the message of protesting against these injustices BUT to be in accordance with what is happening there. Especially if it's in front of Putin and an oppressive regime like Azerbaijan and especially if you are not speaking against inequality afterwards. These regimes are utilizing huge cultural events to act as if the peaceful initiative for current tensions between Russia and the west is coming from them when in reality it's just a pure form of propaganda. It reminds me of Russia at this year's Eurovision Song Contest where they sent a song about global peace that was perceived as hypocritical from many viewpoints. It's a political message that reverses the ongoing aggressions and creates an image that is just ludicrous and cringy in my opinion. Would you like Gaga to be opening some sort of big event in Qatar or in Russia without taking a critical point of view at her performance? I don't!

I don't know why so many feel attacked by just stating a different opinion that is not in accordance what the majority of this forum is saying. Let me state my opinion without being insulted or put down or be declared as just a "hater". That's not true and a fanbase subsists on different points of view.

When i hear your examples i think that you are not well informed. You really think that the West > EU and US have nothing to do with the war in Ukraine for example, but that's completely wrong in my opinion. Look at the history. Read Zbigniew Brezinski and learn about the Heartland Theory. You think that US has no geo-political interests ? Oh man.

Many regimes are anti-west because of the cruelty of the West, it's reality for them.

Start with Operation Northwoods and look what in the world is going on. You live like completely in an illusion.

You have to talk and sing with each other to achieve peace, Gaga has done it right. She did not allow to be used as a political tool of the west.

Many artists cancelled their concerts. It's a matter or principles and bringing awareness, standing up for the weaker and oppressed ones. She never spoke about it because she doesn't know.

It's not matter of opinion, it's about facts of what is happening there. American tax money already goes for military aid to Israel in billions of dollars.

Basic human rights are more important than seeing your favorite artists. Standing up against injustice is more important than money.

It's off topic anyway, I was just answering to @barnabesk .

I wanna know: Is she the first artist to open the European Olympics?

Or was it "just" for some UK ceremony?

Actually it was all over the world according to the TV deals signed up

"BT Sport will provide daily coverage of the Games, which will take place between 12-28 June, across their three channels, BT Sport Extra, and digital platforms.

The deal is the latest in a series signed by Baku 2015, with the event’s broadcast reach now stretching to all corners of Europe and across the globe. Agreements have been signed in the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Latin America and the Arab World as well as with a host of other European broadcasters."

I never stated that the West is not participating in a non-aggressive way. It's a conflict in which both sides act as aggressors, but in this case Gaga is being used as a propaganda/political tool for a regime that is being heavily critized for it's disregard of BASIC human rights like freedom of expression in any way (politically, s-xually etc.). I don't want Gaga to do any sort of propaganda for any side of government when it's clearly being exploited. She's free to do whatever she wants though and I respect that. I just do not support this specific kind of performance since it's sending a message that would normally contradict to her own stance that she has expressed in the past.
