PigInsideAHuman 1
If she is it's not doing anyone any harm Actually, it does do harm. Because if artists can buy followers, views, and popularity, then the artists on the come up have a harder time achieving success because they are looked at as unimportant and minuscule. I feel like because of how some of the music sites are set up, I miss out on some potentially unknown artist that is awesome because of this. I think it is okay for the sites like iTunes and Google Play to advertise for artists. And I think it is okay for fans to stan for their faves. But I don't think it is okay for mega artists to be advertising over another artist's music vid on youtube for their upcoming album, only because some huge money loaded label payed for it. It's kind of disrespectful. Imagine if you worked really hard on a painting, and then the museum put a giant sculpture right in front of it so no one noticed it. You'd be salty, wouldn't you? I don't think that big artists shouldn't be supported and get promo, I just think that the music and visuals should speak for themselves and have a more equal playing field. I don't want to see a pop up ad for "Birthday" when I'm trying to watch G.U.Y. Has the music experience (specifically in social media) become that warped that they think I should eat up this that and this artist because their stats show they are "related to" the artist I'm enjoying? Should Katy Perry be allowed to buy up twitter followers (a publicly traded company FYI), so that she "seems" more popular. The industry knows people eat that **** up because they validate what is good based on number counts now, and it is so ****ing annoying. How can artists, music, and videos that are actually good become recognized and appreciated, when the giant balloon of money hungry business men and the artists they deem "popular and profitable" at the time are getting in the way all over the internet? lego 44,165
It's possible and very sad. Even that "Katy-superfan" seemed like an actress to me. FreePalestine
PigInsideAHuman 1
Somewhere I don't think it's by physical money...she kisses up to people. This was very evident when she sent radio stations everywhere "Birthday" cakes... omg she did that? lol

How so? they didn't really connect, at all, on any level. it was so awkward. plus that girl looked 30. im sorry......but 30 year olds are not into katy perry
lego 44,165
How so? I believe her fans are much younger and those glasses and morning robe seemed like a costume to me, like the whole thing looked staged. Also Katy's awkward hug in the beginning, what was that about? I thought she would be warmer with her fans. FreePalestine
CHROMATICA 2020 477
We talked about this in my class the other day! Payola is illegal, but it's not illegal for KP to give giftcards to radio stations so that they may give to listeners. For example, (this is figurative and indicative of the entire pop industry, not just Katy) her label will send so many giftcards to give to radio stations to give out to their listeners. This, in turn will drive the station to play Dark Horse more often. She's not paying the radio with cash, and technically not paying them at all so this is how she gets away with it. It's like the record company is paying for the radio station's promo, and as a result they play Katy's (or whoever's) music. Kind of like that. Also Katy's awkward hug in the beginning, what was that about? I thought she would be warmer with her fans. -Her fans range in age, just like most pop stars (I mean even on GGD we have teenagers and 30 year olds) -It WAS a costume. A lot of people wear costumes/special outfits that have to do with the celebrity they're meeting. I didn't think it was weird. -It was an awkward hug, but I don't think that really means anything. Even if it were an actress, that doesn't mean the hug should've been awkward.
Mills 446
Similar to any type of business, there would always be crooked things on the side in pursuit of success. And it doesn't only reside within Capitol Records. It's been predominant since time immemorial.
Economy 47,996
Well, the GP really does seem to like her, her album is selling well, the media talks about her, her youtube views are exploding... Payola can only do so much... Even if they payed to have her songs play non-stop... If ppl didnt like her, her AI and other success just wouldnt be there And im not afraid to admit i like Katy Perry
