blubrryxkisses 15
I don't get it... is there something that I missed? Everyone is saying that it was funny, but I did not witness anything even remotely humorous.. I'm confused. I was just extremely bored and it felt like I was watching left over cut footage from a reality show on a local (not even network) tv station. The one good thing that this video did was having nothing actually happen in terms of a plot, so I kept watching to the end in the hopes that something was going to happen to bring it all together and give the whole thing a point. Sadly, this never occurred... I miss her old videos. ET, Wide Awake, TGIF were all executed quite well and matched up to the given song fantastically as well. This.. I have no idea. It was like a rip off of Jack Ass but with none of the production value or punch lines. Some of the longest 8 minutes of my life.
Essence 174
You don't need a plot. Applause didn't have a plot.Unconditionally says hi.But Applause wasn't just a combination of beautiful imagery tied together by nothingness...It represented her attempting to get our applause in a variation of different ways. What does the car crash scene even represent? Huh? And the video had absolutely no correlation with the performances tied to it or anything.

JazzGa 14,531
HAHAHAHAHA She showed herself to be a really hilarious and talented if campy actress tbh I actually gained a lot of respect for her with this song and video Though the Jewish guy character totally wasn't racist at all :awkney: Her voice sounded powerful and great, and she was entertaining and didn't take herself too seriously. No wonder she's America's sweetheart. Oh god AM I BECOMING A KATY STAN? Nooooooooo My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
Kermit the frog 1,895
That was freaking INCREDIBLE. I cant believe Im saying it but it was, the idea was soooo well executed, felt like a directed live tv and felt genuine + had a plot!

Raikov 183
This was supposedly all real, but everything seemed really fake. She should have crashed some more interesting birthday parties because it was kind of boring. If it was real, it was kind of gross of her to use actual footage of a kid crying because he's afraid Katy ate a rat... as well as completely out of touch with what the song's spirit was. Despite being kind of outlandish, it actually felt really boring. I like Katy's brand of silly humor (that KatyCats commercial and LFN!) but clearly she and those birthday audiences did not have chemistry. Except that old guy who let her ride him... The idea was interesting and definitely different from her usual stuff, but gosh was the execution awful. The only part that made me smile was when she revealed herself to be Katy to those kids. They seemed genuinely happy and I can imagine them telling their friends at school that Katy was at their party and painted their faces. I wish she'd shown the reaction videos for the other parties too, especially the 90 year old. He seemed into it. I'm not "pressed," by the way, because I have better things to do with my emotions than spend them being upset that Katy Perry has more number 1s than Gaga. I like Katy. I think she's adorable and she's the perfect bubblegom pop star. I have, however, been disappointed with the Prism era - do I even need to bring up the epicness that could have been the Dark Horse video (witches! stuff related to the song)? It's hard to come off an era like Teenage Dream (so Prism really is her BTW :P), but I didn't expect this. And that clip from TMZ where you see kids crying cuz she hit a stooge and freaking out when the car crashes... something about it seems exploitative. "Think of the children" is usually kind of stupid, but that and the kid crying during the rat scene was actually kind of sad. Can Walking On Air or This Is How We Do now get the single status they deserve (I just like those songs, I'm not a little manager or anything ;) )? Imagine hungover Katy in TIHWD just chilling and making pancakes and then doing the call outs... hell, the type of humor in this video probably fits TIHWD better than Birthday. "This goes out to all you ladies out there eating breakfast... in last night's dress."
RAMROD 106,024
Some fans left her because Illuminati inspired MV for Dark Horse But Birthday might take them back into loving her again. Gagz 2,572
But Applause wasn't just a combination of beautiful imagery tied together by nothingness... It represented her attempting to get our applause in a variation of different ways. What does the car crash scene even represent? Huh? And the video had absolutely no correlation with the performances tied to it or anything. She said the car crash represents the impact you feel when love hits you. Love comes at you like a racing car, and love hurts. The fire represents passion, and the people in the video can all be seen showcasing various forms of love. And I'm not sure why the video has to correlate with the performances.
