The whole pole dancing round broomsticks was really silly looking, though. I didn't see the point of the big cross on her dress nor the flames at the end. It was just "gothic," "edgy," "controversial" imagery thrown in to get people talking. Too reminiscent of Madonna. Ultimately, like a lot of people have said, this kind of thing simply isn't her. She's clearly a very happy, optimistic person who loves to laugh and have fun. Darkness isn't a feeling that she's ever experienced. Her break up with Russell seems to be the only sad event she's ever had in her life and boy, she's capitalised on it relentlessly. But I think that made her sad more than angry. Her album's lyrics do not befit a divorcee who's approaching 30. As DH is the only "dark" song on the album, it screams "utilising the trap music current trend for success" rather than genuine emotion. Raikov 183 Posted January 28, 2014 Share Posted January 28, 2014 that video of her singing CG was actually really good compared to other performances like when she ruined "Don't Stop Me Now" I looked that up out of curiosity. The iHeartRadio performance wasn't as bad as I expected. She clearly had a hard time sustaining the notes, struggled at the beginning, failed to hit the low notes (every time she says "DON'T stop me now"), and generally sounded shouty. It's in a higher key than the original, so perhaps that accounts for some of the difficulties. The first time I ever heard her live was on a YouTube video that was taken by a cell phone. She was performing "Hot N Cold" and it was absolutely awful. She had no control over her voice and was super pitchy. That video actually convinced me for a while that she couldn't sing and was just some studio concoction. I've seen some videos since then that show a better side of her, but I'm still amazed that she can sound acceptable in one performance and awful in another. I can't think of another singer that has such variable quality live. I actually remember the first time I ever heard her at all was 2008 or 09, when Nickelodeon was showing some music videos during the night. They showed "Womanizer" and "Hot N Cold," and I liked "Hot N Cold" and looked it up. Looking her up on Wikipedia was how I found out about "I Kissed A Girl," actually, because I never once heard it on the radio - and back then, I heard a lot of radio. Then in 2010-11 she totally dominated everything and I got into her a bit more. I never bought any of her albums until last year, though... I always looked her stuff up on YouTube.
