As much as they intend to convey a strong message against Columbia for doing this, it's clear that they're the ones who'd be at the losing end of the stick no matter what. I think it's about them giving Apple exclusive rights to an album for a full week. If companies start doing this, then it's going to make Apple's iTunes a monopoly. By teaching them a lesson, and make the companies "punish" they don't sell the album, to say "hey don't do this again". I don't think not selling one album is going to hurt Amazon's or Targets sales, because it won't make that much of a difference to them whether they don't sell music at all or do, but it will hurt the record labels the most.
