Bow Down basically tells women to treat Beyonce like royalty, specifically those who are seen as her competitors in the industry. Then the speech comes in which includes the line "We raise girls to see each other as competitors". Then Flawless starts which has a completely different tone compared to Bow Down. It seems to unify women by saying they're all flawless etc. The way I interpreted this structure is that Beyonce's basically saying the ideas of Bow Down are wrong and we shouldn't see other women as competitors.

I thought the Star Search part was a little tacky though. I agree that it implies that Girls Tyme lost to older white men just because they're young black girls.

The lady speaking also says that she thinks that it can be good for women to see each other as competition for accomplishments. It's bad when they see each other as competition for men and marriage. Again, I fail to see how this is contradicting feminism.

lol stop you are overreacting.

They hardly chose the lead single based on what would be inconvenient for Gaga and it isn't that shocking or horrible that they are using the same director... Beyonce also has videos on the album shot by Jonas Ã…kerlund. Music video directors get around.

It completely ignores the cultural differences though
***Flawless is a hip-hop song, it is filled with bravado and self importance. Bow Down b---hes i'm #1.

"Now she was telling women to treat her like a queen and was taking her fans for granted, even calling them names. That snippet had no purpose being on Flawless as it made no sense - one minute, she was telling women to bow down to her, the next she's telling them that they're flawless and they should tell everyone else they're flawless."

What sort of terrible and lazy reading? :smh:

She is not telling ALL women to bow down to her. One minuet she is telling her haters, generally nameless b---hes, to bow down and respect what she has achieved. She doesn't have to take anyones **** cause she flawless.

Not to mention that the fact Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is featured means that she gave permission for her work to be used in the track so I don't think she is so upset about how Beyonce has treated her.

What I actually found refreshing and "feminist" about Beyonce's album was how she represented a lot of feminine traits as powerful and important. While it is usually typically masculine traits that are are associated with strength, power and respect Beyonce took a lot of feminine imagery and made it powerful.

She made motherhood powerful and respectful. She made caring for children a trait that demands respect and seen as something strong and powerful.

It's just the basic "trap" song on the album. It barely has a meaning.

Musical Genre ≠ The meaning of the Song.

I hated the song from day one because it just added to her pretentious image. Adding a speech by a feminist doesn't make it a girls anthem. Listen to the lyrics. It's catchy though, I'll give her that lol

It's not harmless to feminism at all. Bow Down is telling all her haters to bow down... Bow Down Bitches. Now a days, "b---hes" doesn't even mean "female." And if you're labeling a "b---h" to only a female, then you're being s-xist in a way. So she sort of saves herself there. In the last part of the song, "flawless," I don't see how that's harmful at all. It's confident if anything, and there's nothing wrong with that.
