Something strange about BTW lyrics

If i were spelling my name, i would speak it as Capital C-O-N-N-O-R because the assumed case is lower case. Like i said... Grammar rules cuz ya know Music Major, English Minor... Songwriter...

In the book IF it were written "Capital HIM" That would be spoken "him" with stressed emphasis on the only syllable (most often based on volume), IF it were written "Capital Him" it would be reffering to a proper noun, implied God because of the biblical nature of the album BUT it could be a lover, THE ONE for example. Now, the booklet is SUPPOSED to match closely to what the singer sings so BECAUSE in a quote to MAKE CERTAIN no error would be made in comprehension, it was written as capital H-I-M.

With dashes because periods would imply there BEING an acronym, which is NEVER  clarified... UNLIKE "I wanna be the Girl Under You. I wanna be your G.U.Y."

This is not grammar but reather orthography ;)

So it turns out that Gaga made an error by unintentionally spelling it out like it was an acronym, either because she didn't know or, more likely, because those matched with other lyrics.

But any case where there is not a dash presents a single syllable. Does not fit the emphasis, or artistic meaning. Your point is actually completely invalid. Because MUSIC. It is what she said. Wrote. and intended. Therefore NOT a mistake... Because Dr. Seuss... Look at any books of his... Youer than you?... This trancends Grammar and orthography. Because this is poetry/music.

She did not say one syllable after capital. She said H-I-M. Not him, Him, or HIM. She said H-I-M. Just like Aura and Applause do not end with the same written lyric. It is not both ARTPOP it is "ARTPOP" on Aura and "A-R-T-P-O-P" on Applause.

You are factually wrong. :bye:

Why are you so insistent on "winning" this discussion and proving me wrong? Lol, chill! Not very mature.

Dude, I realise that she did it for artistic purposes and because it fit the song, that's what I told you earlier. Nevertheless, she created unintentional (or intentional, if it was rly an acronym of His Infernal Majesty, what I strongly doubt) ambiguousness and people may get confused with the meaning of that line.

We can only believe and I want to believe that it was her artictic choice.

The move was done for emphasis. that's all no intent of satanic worship...

One thing i've NEVER understood... Regarding "Illuminati" and "Satanic" agendas... I have never done anything particularly sinful besides... be gay but haha eyes of the beholder a.k.a H-I-M (note, again emphasis not an acronym)

Oscar

She's either illiterate and doesn't know the rules of grammar(we know what she intended to mean anyway), or she was aware of it and didn't care(kinda like how Do what u want has a "u" instead of "you").

Any other reasons would be a reach imo.

Out of all the wonky lyrics on that album, this is the one that gets singled out? :emma:

The issue I have is rly irrelevant and it's with the word "capital", which shouldn't be written down cuz it's implied from the text, lol.

Even if it were implicit, people might have different interpretations of the phrase itself. LG can be taken as removing all doubts by explicitly stating they are spelt out as they were and not any other possible variations.

The word capital is not redundant. It probably doesn't even mean "upper case" describing the next three letter, but rather as "important" or "primary". Either case, what it describes isn't implicit (at least not when sung). However, let's assume it does mean "uppercase", as the point still stands.

Since the lyrics are supposed to describe what is being spoken, "capital" should appear written, regardless of how "H-I-M" appears. Also, it turns out it is grammatically correct, if it isn't an acronym. If it were (which I doubt), it should be "H.I.M.".

Quoting WIkipedia (I know it's not the best source, but still): "Similarly, hyphens may be used to indicate a word is being or should be spelled. For example, W-O-R-D spells "word"."

So it turns out that Gaga made an error by unintentionally spelling it out like it was an acronym, either because she didn't know or, more likely, because those matched with other lyrics.

But spelling it out doesn't mean it is an acronym. It could also be use to emphasize the word itself, which she commonly does (A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E, A-R-T-P-O-P).

It's to be taken both ways...

Him could refer to your God/religion/beliefs

HIM could refer to any guy, capitalized to emphasize it's questionable.
