As massive as Canadas oil reserves are, it doesnt change the fact that its one of the most expensive reserves in the world to exploit and likely wont become greatly profitable again unless prices surge again. #2 Bet on agriculture and water. Global warming is causing many places that grow a lot of food and grains like the USA to become very dry. Canada has more fresh water per Capita than any other Country in the world. The entire Canadian land is filled with lakes and rivers. The idea is while the world will be suffering from droughts, over-population and food shortages, Canada could grow huge amounts of crops with all the free empty land it has and massive amounts of fresh water. The warming climate will also increase growing season in Canada. And since food is likely to become expensive, this will likely become hugely profitable! Last time I checked its June and you need a jacket to go outside. Also the last winter was extremely long + one of the worst and summer never came. I don't think you can really predict global warming over an extended period of time like say 15-20 years.But it is a good point to take advantage of all the fresh water we have and all the unused land. But it is a good point to take advantage of all the fresh water we have and all the unused land. length of winter is irrelevant. as long as the growing season is also longer... ere getting more extreme winters but often more extreme summers also. spring and fall are what seem to be dying but the extremes are in place eitherway, the states have been getting drier and drier and we got so much water... they may have a harder time growing certain things in the future and we can pick up the slack of much of the world and we know pretty well its warming... cause although WW average temperatures have increased less than 2C... its not proportional... equator has warmed up less and the poles more... so in Canada warming will be above Global average but even if they wrong and seasons dont grow, we still got the land and water Also true its been cold but only last 2-3 days... past month has been pretty hot. temporary blips in temperature has always been normal Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can't base global warming on year-to-year, because climate is a 30-year average. Perhaps Canada could focus on biomass and wood? Agriculture is possible too, but you can't grow too much food.Also they could invest more in pharmaceutical industry (worth many billions) and stuff like making fake organs (they can already make fat-less animal meat in my country, when they get fat in it we could stop killing animals). Thats more land than some entire Countries So some land in flat areas that arent rocky but lack good soil could be converted into farmable land if fertilized. And with tones of fresh water available we could grow lots of food! I suppose would he a hetter econoy than oil. Yeah but i think their point is that with the shale revolution we have lots more oil available and a more competitive market... Oil prices at $100/barrel and above may not be the norm anymore anytime soon under a new more competitive oil market with lower oil prices, Canada as one of the highest cos producers might struggle to keep its industry thriving and profitable our reserves are huge but most of it is in oil sands whih are quite expensive, even shale is cheaper. Oil sands that Canada and Venezuela have so much of might he the oil of last resort. Was profitable for some years during the shortages but now it may not be needed for decades and as such, they are saying Canada betting too much on oil might be a mistake Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
