Is anyone else really proud of Gaga for doing this? (Pet line related)

If she cared about the welfare of animals she would not wear leather, fur, feathers, wool, silk, and meat. Even if we were to put put aside her clothing and eating habits as you asked us to do, she is still the perfect example of someone who makes selfish decisions that disregard the welfare of animals. When she chose to purchase two French Bulldogs directly from a breeder she by passed millions of shelter dogs waiting to be recused. A compassionate individual interested in making the world a better place for domesticated animals does not purchase dogs based on what breed is currently the trendiest to own. She treats her dogs like accessories.

You seem to be reading that press release as if you have never read a press release before. That statement you quoted was written in an intentionally vague way. You have to be able to interpret PR nonsense. "A portion of the proceeds" (read: we don't want to announce a specific amount or a specific percentage of proceeds freeing us to give five dollars or five thousand dollars) from this inevitably lucrative project will go to "locally-based organizations that do great work with real pets" (read: we don't want to name any prominent national organizations that would be publicly required to disclose the amount of money we gave them.)

"Portion of the Proceeds" "Free Range" "Organic" "Fair Trade" "8 Inches Uncut" they are all meaningless hype words trying to sell you a flattering idea. If this project wasn't purely motivated by monetary gains she could promise that for every bag of Lady Gaga Dog Food sold she would donate a corresponding bag to a shelter, following the Toms  model of a charitable business. But that would never happen.

Do you remember when she filmed a music video in Hearst Castle, choosing to fill an enormous pool with water while California was/is experiencing a historic drought? She did that and promised to release a PSA on water conservation.  Days go by, nothing. Weeks go by, nothing. Months go by, nothing. Then, out of no where with no promotion she released an 18 second video where she simply told people to go to a website about water conservation. That was bull**** and lazy activism. The Born This Way Foundation is bull**** and lazy activism. Donating a sliver of her proceeds from this pet accessories project is bull**** and lazy activism.

In spite of how much I truly adore Lady Gaga, I certainly am not proud of her for releasing a dog accessory line, and I don't think you should be either.

To dog in a shelter that needs supplies and Gaga's money buys the stuff, it's a pretty heroic act. Who knows how many extra pets will find homes and stay well taken care of in shelters while they wait because of Gaga's donation. She could change the world for some individual animals. That's why I donate to my local shelters.

It would be more genuine if she just donated money to animal charities instead of being a typical hollywood LA blonde and masking it to show off her dog and selling products that she will get money for at the end of the day.

This.  She will be able to help some, and that's very worthwhile.  It's like this old quote:

"Making one person smile can change the world… maybe not the whole world, but their world."

I live outside the space time continuum.
