All wings on the political spectrum are biased, doesn't make them any more or less correct though because you can maintain impartiality despite a bias or specific leaning.

To say that Channel 4 is anywhere near as bad as Fox news is a complete exaggeration and would be a completely unfounded argument. You can disagree with Jon Snow's opinions but you need to at least recognise his professionalism (and knowledge) is far above that of the presenter in the Fox news clip. 

Both the Guardian and Channel 4's dedication to gay and transgender rights, human rights in general and the rights of the Palestinian people (amongst other things) is something to be applauded, using "leftwing is biased" (when you yourself are left-wing anyway  ) doesn't detract from that.

IDF says 761 Palestinian civilians killed in Gaza war - half of UN figure

For the first time since Operation Protective Edge, the Israel Defense Forces on Monday released a breakdown of the number of Palestinians killed during the summer war, revealing that 36 percent (761) were civilians and 44 percent (936) were militants.

The rest of the fatalities were defined by the IDF as people whose identities were unknown. The figures published by the IDF contract those released by the UN coordinator of humanitarian affairs, who said the number of Palestinian civilian deaths was at least 1,483.

Groups with ties to ISIS are growing in Gaza

"Terrorist organizations with ties to Islamic State are gaining footholds in Gaza, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot warned the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Tuesday.

In a closed-door meeting, Eisenkot gave a general overview of the IDF’s activities to MKs and discussed his multiyear plans for the IDF.

Eisenkot said terrorists connected to Islamic State are growing stronger in Sinai and act in cooperation with terrorist organizations in Gaza.

The situation in Gaza is very complex because of the many terrorist organizations involved, and the IDF is working to prevent them from growing stronger and to fight the threat of terrorist tunnels, he added.

The IDF is trying to improve the economic situation in Gaza by allowing trucks filled with supplies to enter, but closes the border when rockets are shot, Eisenkot explained.

As for the West Bank, Eisenkot said the security situation is good and there is strong cooperation with the Palestinian Authority. About 70,000 Palestinian workers cross into Israel legally each day, and tens of thousands of do so illegally.

The biggest threat to Israel is the Iran nuclear threat, Eisenkot stated, saying it will keep Military Intelligence and the air force busy in the coming years.

The chief of staff pointed out that Iran is working on regional hegemony in several arenas, with an emphasis on Syria and Gaza.

He expressed confidence in the IDF’s intelligence and cyber warfare capabilities, which are coordinated with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and Mossad, saying they are among the most advanced in the world, and that improves the IDF’s defensive and offensive strength in general.

In response to a question about NGO Breaking the Silence’s reports, which it says are made up of testimony from IDF soldiers breaking international law, Eisenkot said the rules in the IDF are clear and that soldiers should not follow illegal orders.

Eisenkot also called on anyone who gave anonymous testimony to reveal himself or herself to the IDF. However, even if no one comes forward, the IDF investigates all reports of wrongdoing, he said."

TABGHA, Israel — A fire ripped through one of the most famous Catholic churches in the Holy Land on Thursday, damaging the roof and burning prayer books in what authorities believe is an attack by Jewish extremists.

 

The fire broke out at the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish in the middle of the night, causing extensive damage to the inside and outside of the building, said Israel police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

 

The modern building is built on the remains of a fifth-century Byzantine church and features a Byzantine mosaic floor that was not harmed. The church marks the traditional spot of Jesus' miracle of the loaves and fish, and is located on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. It is one of the most popular stops for Christian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land.

 

Father Gregory Collins, head of the Order of Saint Benedict in Israel, which maintains the site, said more than 5,000 people visit the church daily. He said the church would be closed for the next three days due to the fire damage.

 

"It's deplorable, absolutely deplorable. I consider such an attack to be not just an attack on a religious site, on a sanctuary, but also on one of the most visited places in Israel," Collins said. "It is also an attack on freedom of speech, democracy and the right to live here."

 

Father Matthias Karl, a German monk at the church, said a souvenir shop, an office for pilgrims and a meeting room were badly damaged, and bibles and prayer books were destroyed.

 

"It's totally destroyed. The fire was very active," he said.

 

A monk and a church volunteer were hospitalized from smoke inhalation, but the prayer area of the church was unaffected by the fire, he said.

 

A passage from a Jewish prayer, calling for the elimination of idol worship, was found scrawled in red spray paint on a wall outside the church.

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the incident and ordered the head of Israel's Shin Bet internal security agency to "to conduct a full and speedy investigation."

 

"This morning's outrageous arson attack on a church is an attack on us all. In Israel freedom of worship is one of our core values and is guaranteed under the law," Netanyahu said. "Those responsible for this despicable crime will face the full force of the law. Hate and intolerance have no place in our society."

 

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said authorities would make every effort to apprehend those responsible.

 

"Such terrible desecration of an ancient and holy place of prayer is an attack on the very fabric of life in our country, where people of different faiths seek to live together in harmony and mutual tolerance and respect," Rivlin said.

 

Police said they initially arrested 16 youths, all religious Jewish seminary students from West Bank settlements, but released them shortly thereafter. Their lawyer, Itamar Ben Gvir, told Israeli Army Radio the police had no evidence against the youths and that they were under suspicion simply for looking like young settlers.

 

In recent years, mosques and churches have been targeted by vandals in similar attacks. They are often attributed to extremist Jews from West Bank settlements. Such attacks have been widely condemned across the political spectrum in Israel, though few arrests have been made.

 

Last year, a group of mostly Jewish youth attacked the Church of the Multiplication's outdoor prayer area along the Sea of Galilee, pelting worshippers with stones, destroying a cross and throwing benches into the lake, Karl said.

 

Nahum Weisfish, a rabbi from Jerusalem, went to the church with an interfaith delegation to express sympathy and condemn the attack.

 

He said the site might have been targeted because it housed a synagogue some 2,000 years ago. "But either way it is forbidden for this to be done like this. We came to condemn this," he said.

Palestinian kills Israeli

"Palestinian terrorist shot two Israelis, killing one and injuring the second, near the West Bank settlement of Dolev on Friday afternoon, some six kilometers west of Ramallah.

The shooting victims were residents of the city of Lod, and had arrived to bathe in a local spring.

The pair decided to do a turn around after being told by a friend from nearby Dolev that a group of Palestinians were at the spring.

As they approached Parsa Junction, a senior IDF source said, a Palestinian standing at the side of the road asked them to pull over.

They complied, and the gunman asked them whether the "spring had water in it," the IDF source said.

In the middle of their discussion, the man produced a handgun, and opened fire, striking both Israeli men with 9-milliliter rounds.

One shooting victim was critically wounded, and the second sustained light wounds, the source added.



The moderately injured man called on his friend from Dolev to come to the shooting scene, and both proceeded to attempt to resuscitate the critically wounded man, the IDF source said.

Magen David Adom paramedics reported finding Danny Gonen, a 25-year-old man, lying on the ground unconscious, who was not breathing and had no pulse. A second 25-year-old was conscious and suffered gunshot wounds to his limbs.

"We immediately begun providing lifesaving medical care and attempted resuscitation," MDA said.

The IDF dispatched a helicopter to the scene, which airlifted him to the Tel Hashomer Medical Center at Tzriffin.

"We are questioning everyone who was at the spring, and trying to track down the terrorists with intelligence," the officer said.

Israeli civilians are supposed to coordinate visits to the spring with the army, the officer said, adding that it appears as if the two were not aware of that procedure.

"This is a terrorist attack. It could be characteristic of Hamas, or it could be a lone attacker. One doesn't need very much to carry out such a terror attack," the security source stated.

The IDF has launched searches in the area and set up roadblocks."
