I need to admit that I'm not a fan of Netanyahu. But I don't like Obama too 

I think that Obama (not very openly) sees things a little bit more reastically: a two-state solution is necessary.

But a problem is that both sides are too extremist: a lot of Israelis want one Israeli state and considers Palestinians as some kind of animals that deserve to die (even ministers!), and in the rest of the Middle East a lot of people support one Palestinian state with no place for jews and atheists. There's a lack of a middle-agreement, where each side gives something and is partially happy. It's also why I think that, dven with a two-state solution, peace isn't coming anytime soon.

I doubt sanctions would help. I hope Israelis massively vote for culturally left and progressive parties, and the only way I can see that happening is if the debate goes from 'justice', law, order, defense, nationalism and militarism goes to socio-economic issues. Also Obama is the perfect president for a two-state solution to happen, I think that Hillary is just as right-winged as republicans when it comes to military interventions and Israel-Palestine. Palestine and Gaza... I don't really know how the democracy works there but Hamas has to stop. Both sides need less nationalism and more realism.

It's going to take a very long time for the problems to be fixed. Europe is already becoming more and more sceptical about Israel, and that could greatly help make progress faster with more pressure on the Israeli government.

I don't get why Hamas keeps trying though... it's a big waste of money and time to bomb Israel because it has no effect - their defense is extremely good and won't let anything in.

Israel doubles water supplies to Gaza

 

Israel's national water company Mekorot, in accordance with the Water Authority's guidelines, recently doubled its water supply to the Gaza Strip by 5 million cubic meters. The annual supply will now amount to 10 million cubic meters of water.

The new water supply of 5 million cubic meters to the Gaza Stripwill come from two sources including the Nahal Oz pipeline in the south and an older line in the Kissufim area that provides water to the center of the Strip.

 

Mekorot's Vice President of Engineering, Avraham Ben-Yosef, said "Several years ago we laid the line near the fence on purpose in order to give the Palestinians the increment. With the rise of Hamas contact was cut off and only recently have conditions become ripe to supply them the water.

For the second time in 3 days, rockets are fired from #Gaza into #Israel. 

One rocket struck an open field outside Ashkelon after being fired from Gaza, initial reports show Saturday night, after sirens sounded in the Ashkelon area, the Lachish region and the Hof Ashkelon area. 

Several explosions were also heard in the area.No injuries or damage were reported.

An IDF spokesperson confirmed to Arutz Sheva that a rocket was fired from Gaza and that it is estimated to be a lone strike.

The Israeli military has cleared itself of culpability in one of the most controversial incidents in last summer’s Gaza war: a missile attack that killed four children on Gaza beach and injured a number of others.

Israel’s advocate general’s office said the attack, which led to the death of four boys aged between nine and 11 was a “tragic accident”.

An account of the investigation, posted late on Thursday by military spokesman Lt Col Peter Lerner, said the strike had targeted a “compound” which had been known as belonging to Hamas’s Naval Police and Naval Force (including naval commandos)”.

But journalists who attended the scene in the immediate aftermath of the attack – including a reporter from the Guardian – saw a small and dilapidated fisherman’s hut containing a few tools where the children had been playing hide-and-seek.

 

Mohammad Ramiz Bakr, 11, Ahed Atef Bakr and Zakariya Ahed Bakr, both 10, and Ismail Mahmoud Bakr, nine, were killed when they were hit by explosive rounds. Three of them died as they sought to flee the beach after the first child was killed.

Three other people were injured in the attack: Hamad Bakr, 13, was hit by shrapnel in his chest; his cousin Motasem, 11, injured in his head and legs, and Mohammad Abu Watfah, 21, who was hit by shrapnel in his stomach.

The conclusion of the Israeli military investigation comes while the Israel is under a preliminary investigation by the International Criminal Court to establish whether war crimes were committed during the Gaza war – both by Israel and Hamas. The finding will inevitably raise questions over the way in which Israel investigates incidents in which civilians were killed.

Israel’s conduct in last summer’s war was thrown under a harsh spotlight last month with the publication of the testimonies of dozens of soldiers who served in Gaza, collected by the Israeli human rights group Breaking the Silence, which included allegations that the Israeli military did not meet its obligations to protect civilians in wartime.

Eyewitness testimony

Witnesses said the boys had been playing football on the beach shortly before the attack took their lives.

 

“Eyewitness testimony from the day an Israeli air strike that killed four boys on a Gaza beach suggests that soldiers should have known that they were targeting a beach used by civilians,” Sarah Leah Whitson, director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East division, told The Electronic Intifada by email.

 

“If Israel is now saying their forces could not have reasonably known that their rocket fire might harm civilians, it should disclose the evidence to support this claim, including its aerial surveillance,” she added.

 

Dylan Collins, an independent photojournalist who was in Gaza during the war, arrived at the site right after the third shell struck the beach. “In the doorway of the blown-out shack lay a small torso,” he recounted at Al Jazeera America the following day. “At first, I thought that was all that was left of the fourth boy, but as other medics arrived on scene, they quickly unearthed the rest of his little body.”

 

Speaking to the Associated Press, the father of one of the boys dismissed Israel’s investigation. “There is no justice in the internal investigation,” Muhammad Baker said. “We are counting on the ICC [International Criminal Court] and human rights [groups]. We are not afraid and we are confident we will win because the world is with us.”

 

The Baker boys were among the more than 2,200 Palestinians – the vast majority civilians – killed by Israel during the seven-week military offensive in Gaza. Defence for Children International–Palestine has verified the deaths of 535 children as a direct result of Israeli attacks.

 

No accountability

Israel’s decision to close the investigation is part of a broader pattern of impunity for soldiers who committed atrocities against Palestinians during the Gaza onslaught.

 

According to dozens of testimonies collected by the Israeli group Breaking the Silence, soldiers were ordered to target Palestinian civilians during the war.

 

“The instructions are to shoot right away. Whoever you spot – be they armed or unarmed, no matter what,” one soldier told Breaking the Silence. “The instructions are very clear. Any person you run into, that you see with your eyes – shoot to kill. It’s an explicit instruction.”

 

Despite the shocking testimonies and evidence suggesting intentional atrocities, Israel has yet to face any meaningful consequences for its actions in Gaza."

Israeli army jeep hits, kills Palestinian in West Bank

 

An Israeli army jeep struck and killed a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, with the military and locals giving conflicting accounts of the circumstances.

 

A military spokeswoman said the jeep, which was in Qafr Malik village as part of an operation to arrest suspected militants, accidentally hit the Palestinian after he threw a petrol bomb at it.

 

"The driver was startled and swerved, hitting the man," she said, adding that a military investigation would be launched.

 

Local resident Nail Abdul Latah el Hajj denied the Palestinian had attacked the jeep, however, saying the man was walking to work at a chicken farm when he was run down on the main street and then crushed as the vehicle crashed into a wall and overturned.

 

Speaking to Reuters, el Hajj said the man's death sparked confrontations between stone-throwing Palestinian youths and Israeli troops. The military spokeswoman said the disturbances were already under way when the collision happened.

Israeli soldiers beating restrained Palestinian protester caught on tape

 

IDF soldiers were captured on video Friday beating a Palestinian man, even after forces had restrained him after he was arrested in a protest in the Palestinian refugee camp of Jalazone this Friday. [Scroll down for video].

 

During the demonstration, clashes erupted between Palestinians and forces from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion – a predominantly religious military outfit from the Kfir Brigade – that were caught on video by local Palestinian media.

 

In the video, a soldier is seen cursing a Palestinian man, which the forces claim tried to touch their gun. The soldier can be heard screaming expletives at the Palestinian, taunting him to talk back, and vowing that should he say one more word then he will "f*** his mother." The soldier then proceeds to attempt to hit him and a few seconds later another soldier is seen swinging his rifle at the Palestinian, who has words with the soldiers and attempts to push them away.

 

After the initial altercation, the video shows a group of five soldiers trying to overtake the Palestinian, violently hitting his hands and legs. The video also seems to show two soldiers holding the Palestinian man, with a third standing behind him, as a fourth soldier hits the Palestinian with his rifle, causing him to collapse. While on the ground, a fifth soldier is seen punching him in the face, while another soldier kicks him in his face. Another soldier then pins the Palestinian to the ground by stepping on his head, and his face can be seen to be bleeding. The video ends with the forces taking the now handcuffed Palestinian away.

 

According to an initial investigation conducted Saturday morning, the soldier reported the arrest, but failed to mention the events as they were caught on video. The IDF claim that the incident took place after Palestinians pelted the forces with stones and the clash erupted in the Jalazone refugee camp. According to the IDF, the soldiers fired rubber bullets, injuring one Palestinian, and then fired live round into the air in an attempt to disperse what they described as a riot. The IDF noted that the commanding officer at the scene was himself lightly wounded after a stone struck his head.

 

In an official response, the IDF said: "Those [soldiers] involved in the incident were summoned to meet with the brigade commander [Sunday] morning for a clarification and debriefing of the event; if need be, disciplinary action will be taken against them. From a preliminary probe it seems their behavior does not befit that expected of an IDF soldier."
