Woolfsmck 2,763
IKR ... Rocket attacks lead to Israel launching raids , then annex more land...8-/Israel asking U.S. for 50% increase in next defense assistance package WASHINGTON (JTA) — Israel reportedly wants the U.S. to increase its annual defense assistance package by half, to an average $4.5 billion.Defense News reported this weekend that Israel and U.S. officials have in recent months begun negotiations on the next 10-year aid package. The previous package, negotiated by the George W. Bush and Ehud Olmert governments in 2007, averaged $3 billion of assistance each year, for a total of $30 billion, from 2007-2017.The government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants that to increase to $42-45 billion over the 2018-2028 period, Defense News reported, adding that President Barack Obama during his March 2013 visit to Israel “endorsed in principle” that range.Defense News quotes “U.S. and Israeli experts” as saying that the amount would be separate from any package the United States offered Israel as compensation for the Iran nuclear deal now being negotiated between Iran and the major powers.Like the defense assistance package currently in place, it is also separate from the $1.2 billion in materiel the United States stores in Israel and which under certain conditions is available for Israeli use, and from the approximately $500 million in U.S. funds provided to Israeli anti-missile development each year.http://www.jta.org/2015/05/26/news-opinion/united-states/israel-asking-u-s-for-50-increase-in-next-10-year-defense-assistance-package#.VWSoFqJeR6Y.twitter Jeeze, buddy can you spare a dime? like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Luiz 4,253
Israel could join Isis in United Nations list of groups and states that harm children Israel may be included in a blacklist of states and organisations that cause harm to children, after a push by a top UN envoy to include the country alongside the likes of Islamic State (Isis) and al-Qaeda for its conduct during the 2014 attack on Gaza.U.N Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s special envoy for children and armed conflict, Leila Zerrougui, included the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on a draft annual list of states responsible for violating children’s rights in armed conflict. If included in the blacklist, Israel could join groups such as Isis, Boko Haram and the Taliban. It could also lead to harsh UN sanctions and international isolation.Zerrougui’s draft report cited IDF attacks on schools and hospitals during the 2014 war in the Gaza Strip, along with violations by the Palestinian group Hamas, who she is expected to include in the list.U.N Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, however, is said to be leaning towards not including Israel in the list, amid what several diplomatic sources anonymously said was intense lobbying from Israel. However, U.N spokeswoman Stephane Dujarric has said he had not yet made a decision to include the country in the report, which is due in the coming weeks.Israel’s 50-day war in Gaza, dubbed Operation Protective Edge, was launched in July 2014. Over 2,100 Palestinians, including hundreds of children were killed in the conflict, along with 67 Israeli soldiers and six civilians in Israel. The UN has estimated over 20,000 homes have been rendered uninhabitable following Israeli attacks. The envoy’s draft report criticises Israel’s treatment of children, saying the 2014 attack on Gaza killed 500 children and left 3,300 wounded.Elsewhere, the plight of Gaza’s children has been well documented. Unicef reported earlier this year that 373,000 shell-shocked children in Gaza were in need of psycho-social support following the conflict.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israel-could-join-isis-in-united-nations-list-of-groups-and-states-that-harm-children-10285463.html full I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. Luiz 4,253
Obama: World does not believe Israel serious about two-state solution The international community does not believe that Israel is serious about a two state solution, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has placed so many conditions to its establishment that it is unrealistic to think it could come into existence in the near future, US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday.Obama, in an interview with Channel 2 'Uvda', said that Netanyahu was “fairly unequivocal” in his statement the day before the election that a Palestinian state would not emerge on his watch. Since then, Obama said, Netanyahu has made comments indicating that there is a possibility of a Palestinian state, but added so many caveats that it is not realistic anyone would agree to those conditions. The prime minister has reiterated in recent days that any Palestinian state would have to recognize Israel as the Jewish national homeland, and that under any agreement there would need to be an Israeli security presence throughout the West Bank.Obama said it was “difficult to simply accept at face value” Netanyahu’s comments about accepting a Palestinian state, and that these statements “appear to look as if this is simply an effort to return to the previous status quo – that we talk about peace in the abstract, but it is always tomorrow.”Obama, who said that the security, intelligence and military assistance Washington gives to Israel is not conditional on any particular Israeli policy, did say that if there is no prospect for peace, it becomes more difficult for Washington to come to Israel’s defense on the world stagehttp://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Obama-World-does-not-believe-Israel-serious-about-two-state-solution-404855 I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. lego 44,165
Israel's military reported late Wednesday that two rockets were fired from the southern Gaza Strip. The army confirmed reports of rocket-warning sirens going off in Ashkelon and Netivot. No injures or damage were immediately reported, the military reported. There was no immediate claim of responsibility from armed groups in Gaza. Earlier Wednesday, Israeli forces continued near-daily incursions into the Gaza Strip, shooting and injuring one east of Khan Younis and detaining four fishermen off the coast of Gaza City. Residents of the village of Khuzaa east of Khan Younis said that forces in Israeli watchtowers across the borders with Gaza opened fire at a Palestinian farmer because he came close to the border fence. The 22-year-old man was in a moderate condition after being shot in the stomach, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP. An Israeli army spokeswoman did not have immediate information on the shooting. Separately, Israeli naval forces detained four Gazan fishermen off the coast of Gaza City after obstructing and confiscating their boat, fishermen told Ma'an. Three Palestinian fishermen have been shot dead by Israeli forces since September. Risk of death or detention by Israeli forces is compounded by ongoing harassment and interference with their work from Israeli naval forces who frequently confiscate boats and fishing materials. https://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=765752 Israel Air Force jets struck Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip early Thursday morning, after at least two rockets were fired from the Strip toward southern Israel on Wednesday evening. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon vowed to "strike harder if we must," to stop sporadic rocket fire from resuming. No casualties or injuries by the rocket fire were reported. ... Israeli defense officials believe that the militants responsible for the rocket fire belong to a "rogue group." A radical Islamist Salafist group posted a statement on Twitter claiming responsibility for firing the rockets, saying three rockets were fired. The group, calling itself the Omar Brigades, said the cross-border shooting on Wednesday was in retaliation for Hamas' killing of an Islamic state supporter a day earlier in Gaza."We are continuing with our jihad against the Jews, the enemies of God and no one will be able to deter us," the statement said, using the term in Arabic for holy war. Defense Minister Ya'alon said in a press release on Thursday morning that the IDF struck Hamas targets because even if the militants who fired the rockets belong to "rogue gangs" from the Islamic Jihad, Israel holds Hamas "responsible for what is happening in the Strip." Ya'alon said that Israel will not allow sporadic rocket fire from Gaza to resume. "We will not tolerate attempts to hurt our citizens," he said. "...Tonight the IDF responded resolutely to the rocket fire. We will strike harder if we must, and last summer has proven that." Witnesses and medics in Gaza said the predawn attacks caused some damage but no casualties. Following Wednesday's rocket fire, Hamas security services evacuated their headquarters in the Strip, fearing an Israeli response. A top official in the organization accused a Salafist group for the rocket fire, saying it is attempting to challenge Hamas and drag the area into a conflict. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.659534 @GazaTVNews Several Israeli airstrikes in the past 10 minutes have hit close to the Al Maqousi Towers, a residential area in Gaza @Op_Israel Explosion reported at Gaza Seaport. #GazaUnderAttack @Omar_Gaza #Israel #F16 bombed #Khanyounis central/southern #Gaza twice. @Omar_Gaza #breaking #photo: place that #Israel #F16 bombed near Al maqousi residential area minutes ago.#Gaza #GazaUnderAttack FreePalestine
