The dehumanization of all white, American police officers often goes hand in hand with defending, again, all black people (whether they are or are not involved in criminal activity). In my opinion it's exactly this creation of seemingly opposed, static entities that's making conflicts boil in the first place.This is of course not to say that racial stereotypes don't exist in media coverage. The rule of bumping is for very OLD threads, like months or even years old. When you bump it, it shows among "what's new" threads. And in the end, why does it bother you? Are you a mod? They get reported as if they are Let's not even discuss the over-focus of black on white crime and black crime in general compared to what actually happens statistically It's literally true; Tamir Rice was even called a thug; he was shot after playing with a toy gun in a park in just seconds after the police arrived and he was a kid Like doesn't even LOOK threatening. He looks innocent AF and didn't have a criminal history or even one as a trouble maker. Like, if he did, im sure they'd mention it, because they make conscious efforts to dehumanize victims they have mentally "other'd" for whatever reason If he once hit a kid in school, im sure they would say it They DON'T portray white crimes with the same sense of urgency in comparison. White people have rioted over football game losses and burned things several times, same with that cancelled pumpkin fest last year, but they were not portrayed as thugs for doing so. Thug is an incredibly racialized, politicized word and I think we'd be silly to ignore it's use Like, the host was almost getting a bit offended and seemed off put the entire video, but its a reasonable reaction to feel that sense of cognitive dissonance. He doesn't believe in that narrative because its not his personal experience The guy wasn't saying that "cops are more often than not corrupt/unreliable" but the fact of the matter is that they are trying to put forth the fact that these things are More Common Than People Think, or better want to believe. Like, yes it has to do with privilege to not see these things too tbh, as uncomforting as that is You want to assume that they don't, and that these are rare cases, but in reality they aren't. Like, if we want to say this is a 2% of the time occurance, its more like a 15-20%.
