It sounds extreme for fans to be putting such importance on whether a celebrity follows them on Twitter but in the modern world, celebrities are so connected to their fans that if something like this happens, it has a profound effect. Connecting to your fans is how you hold on to your fame and success now. Artists who leave their fans in the lurch tend to disappear over time. And artists who outright disrespect their fans definitely disappear over time. Jessie J recently culled all her fan followers, leaving her only followers being friends and family. It was obvious why she did it but she certainly didn't give an explanation and that was a big problem. Her fans were livid and called her ungrateful and some said they'd stopped being fans. May be extreme, but this is what modern celebrity is like: you've got to respect your fans if you want to keep them.

she also blokced a fan who made a joke about taylors moms cancer and she blocked some guy who made a joke about her abortion (that guy was calling some black dude monkey and a fa**ot yesterday) 

this fan was being low-key annoying too

Ya'll are so ****ing bitter. People have literally posted the guys rude ass tweets that he DELETED. Nicki loves her fans. Not being able to watch a video on Tidal isnt gonna hurt us. hell the damn videos leak like 30 minutes after anyways. i wish ya'll would just shut up about tidal already. the artists music is still on itunes go buy it there. the videos will leak, go watch them somewhere else. your life is uneffected. stop being annoying and constantly finding something to b---h about. and those of you saying gaga would never do this...please. gaga isnt gonna let someone who she follows talk **** about her. why would she want to see that on her feed? if tidal is hurting anyone its the artists. not the fans so just live with it

I agree with the fact that artists use social media and other resources to connect to their fans and build a loyal fanbase. However, like in this case, when fans are super entitled and cross the line, they are no longer beneficial as fans. People like this guy do nothing but stir up negativity. Artists would be better off without these super negative and controlling fans.  That toxic element isn't needed in a fanbase! I would do the same as Nicki and block those who were hyper critical and disrespectful. No one needs those toxic types around, including the fanbase as a whole.
