I don't think Gaga's music matches her talents

Yeah I always felt that fans that became a fan of her from born this way to ARTPOP dont really understand lady gaga at all.

or they may understand the current Lady Gaga better than those who's perceptions were cemented during her earliest eras.

They really don't if they use words such as "basic".

Of course, she is capable of more. I would have never imagined that the girl who wrote "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" was capable of music on the melodic and exhilarating levels of Born This Way and ARTPOP. And from there, who knows where else she can go? She is extremely talented, has only progressed as a songwriter since her pre-fame days.

I also think it's a bit off-base to label her pop music as "generic". Even at her least inspired, a Gaga track is always constructed with great love and detail.

Many people have noticed the discrepancies between Gaga's avant-garde tastes/image and the actual music she puts out. None of her music is actually experimental. I don't think this is bad at all, but it makes me wonder when the gap between the two areas will start to close.

I totally expect Lady Gaga to explore other genres. It's the very nature of a pop star to adapt in order to survive. We just have to give her time. She already put out a jazz album.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

I think her music is already amazing, but I do think she could do even better. The strength of her voice wasn't really shown until Bad Romance and Teeth, and then it went full force on BTW's album as a whole, then here and there on ARTPOP. Gaga's voice is highly versatile and I think she can do a lot of interesting things with it on future albums.

This

On the contrary, I believe that her music gives a rather good-to-great representation of her capabilities as a top-notch talent. Her lyrics and overall music delivery from The Fame to ARTPOP are nowhere near deplorable for me to say that her intelligence and understanding towards music, artistry, fame, and the entertainment industry as a whole, as reflected with her interviews and public announcements, do not 'match' with the material she actually offers for public consumption, even if the music she's offering is mostly considered as 'pop music'.

Most of her music is pretty generic, catchy pop, though I will definitely admit her music has gotten less and less generic for the most part. Basically, I don’t think her music is nearly as unique, interesting, creative, and intelligent as she is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these two statements come off as though 'pretty generic', 'catchy pop' are automatically antithesis of something that should/could be considered as 'interesting', 'creative', and 'intelligent'. This isn't the first time I've read this notion and this isn't the first time I strongly disagree with it. 'Pretty generic', 'catchy pop' music, like any other genre or form of music there is, could be 'interesting', 'creative', and 'intelligent' as well, depending on the capabilities of its creators and the reception of its listeners.

It's not like 'catchy pop' could be pulled off successfully by literally anyone, or something 'pretty generic' didn't originate from something that's so unique it started a trend for others to follow. Pulling a smash hit, not just once, requires an incredible amount of musical intelligence and understanding too, in the same way crafting these powerful ballads, the 'masterpiece' songs without the help of vocal effects and enhancers of which some, mostly non-fans of pop music as we know it, regard as the definition / reflection of 'intelligent' songwriting.

Just because Gaga's not releasing songs like the classics of Aretha Franklin, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, etc., it doesn't mean her songwriting or her music delivery is a bad representation of her intelligence as an artist. A song like 'Poker Face' may be called as 'generic' or 'dumb pop' today by those people who worship rock music or jazz or blues or hip-hop, but it doesn't mean others wouldn't and shouldn't regard it as a work of a musical genius. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the listeners' musical preference. I mean, your musical taste may say her music doesn't match with her talent. And mine says it does.

Exactly :applause: Also I wish people would stop using words like generic and basic just because a song is popular. Mainstream would be the correct term to describe a popular song but those words that they use are just childish and dumb.

This makes no sense. Her concepts and stylistic delivery have remained the same throughout her whole career. Those who were fans during The Fame era would be in the best position to understand the ARTPOP era because it's essentially a sequel to the former, with her talking about the same concepts in her interviews and making the same kind of music and the same style of videos. Not that any of it is hard to "understand" in the first place lol

And if you're talking about the C2C-Oscar era then there's nothing to get, it's just standards. A pleasurable break between her solo records.

Couldn't agree more :legend:

I expected a lot more from her after her The Fame era, personally. It's just always a bit weird to hear her talk about all the brilliant, amazing artists she grew up listening to and then to hear her own stuff which is sort of.. not what you'd expect.

Still, I think she didn't release one mediocre album. Pop-wise her stuff is great. But I do think she's meant for more than that and she seems to agree with me in one of her more recent interviews: "I think I came in through pop music but I never really belonged there."

The last paragraph :applause: I think we can expect amazing things from her in general, I just hope she's able to put them in her own career, 'cause in my personal opinion, she shines brightest when she's doing something "else" (her Sting performances, the Stevie Wonder tribute, the Oscars performance, the Cheek to Cheek live performances, The Rolling Stones,...).

You've said things in this post I was too scared to even post. Thank you.
