Rome 176
New fan detected. The new people that are coming should realize that because a song can be categorized as dance or pop doesn't make it less good. Sounds like you are saying that catchy pop song are bad only because they are catchy.

manicholic 3,694
I think Bad Romance was a spectacular pop masterpieceBorn This Way was a fantastic multi-genre album in it's standard tracklistingShe was validated as a great true vocalist and pop performance artist during ARTPOP/C2C era, Earning numerous stamp of approval from Koons, Abramovic, Bob Wilson, Tony Bennett, Julie Andrews... which she kinda really needed after pushing the General Public envelope so much so quickly between and during TFM and BTWNow she'll link her visual identity to acting and theater in the most well-suited role possible in AHS which will help the GP understand/receive her betterSo we'll see where LG takes all of her experiences with her next recordI think at the very least she'll curate her songs better as both producer and songwriterAnd perhaps be more open to contributions from othersIf anyone is capable of growing and evolving in ways no one else can predict, it's LG so.. There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled.
Katie14 4,828
I dont think she's in the exact position to act superior over making catchy pop music. Many people have this misinterpretation that she was forced to make The Fame when really its the album she wanted to make. If you've been a gaga fan since day one then you'll know that she was very proud of her debut album and even before she became mainstream famous, she was making music that evolved and evolved and you can tell from the transition from 2006 - 2007 that she wanted to make dance music. I wish fans would understand that there's nothing wrong with catchy pop music. Yes Gaga can make more different music if she wanted to. Gaga has said herself "People think electronic music is soulless and its not" which is so true. It's kind of sad that her new fans paint out electronic music to be this "generic crap" that gaga is forced to put out. Maybe ARTPOP was something she was forced to simmer down but her first three albums sonically came from her heart. It's kind of annoying that this fan base has been brainwashed and evolved into tumblr music experts that think Gaga needs to make music like Bjork in order to solidify her musicianship. I'm not directing this to you at all but it's something I've noticed with gaga fans. If her next album is electronic then I know many of the hipster fans here are going to get angry because they want a bjork album lolAll I'm saying is I think her music is less impressive than how she comes across intellectually and creatively. I listen to her speak and than I expect more than what she puts out. To me, it doesn't match up. It's not because her music is pop. I'm not trying to act hipster and insult pop music. That wasn't my point at all.

Assuming I'm new because you don't agree with my opinion is rude and disrespectful. I have nothing against pop music. With Gaga, I have always felt like her bark is bigger than her bite with regard to her music ( and I'm not talking about hype). My opinion has nothing t to do with genre. ARTPOPchamp 292
I feel The Fame is the greatest waste of Lady Gaga's actual vocal talent. But, it had to be done, the music Lady Gaga has made, where her talents haven't been allowed to flourish and be seen is just how it had to be, breaking into pop like that? Pop music has to have a certain sound or else there is a slim chance of making it big. Like if Lady Gaga's debut album featured vocals like Till It Happens to You or even Dope, I think it would have been very hard to gain popularity. It's why her first actual album Red & Blue didn't do well, she had to change her sound if she wanted to be a popstar.
ARTPOPchamp 292
That is part of why I have concerns about Gaga going back to making pop music and have reservations about Gaga making The Fame style of music, it will be a waste of her vocal talents. Head Empty 25,349
She has always said that she's still finding her identity as an artist. She truely loves pop music, but at the same time she's an equally big fan of tons of other styles. It seems like she has been scratching the surface of these different styles that she likes, but at the same time she has clinged to that succesful "Gaga" formula that has kept her on the radio all this time. C2C was the first album that really let her cling onto anything other than radiofriendly music. Perphaps her next project will be similar in that she'll explore the depths of one specific sound, and start experimenting with her formula rather than with her genre. But if we've learned anything from the last 3 years, it's that it's probably best to not expect Gaga to behave in any kind of way, as she has the ability to change her mind completely from day to day. ARTPOPchamp 292
I wouldn't mind if Lady Gaga made The Fame style music, music similar to the instrumentals but it's the alteration of her vocals I wouldn't want, I wouldn't want all that autotuned stuff like The Fame had on it. All that autotune and vocoder and electronic-ization of her voice is just a waste, I want her vocals to shine through.

CannaeDrive 3,412
I agree, tho I still greatly appreciate and enjoy what she has done up until now, otherwise I wouldn't be a fan. She is the only pop(ular) singer i'm interested in. The point is, she barely scratched the surface of her musical talent and I'm convinced that the best from her is yet to come. It is not a musical genre issue, as some people here misinterpret your OP, it's simply artistic evolution and let her musical creativity blossom to come into light, think The Beatles from "Love me do" to "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" as a comparable situation. "Fame Is A Boomerang" - Maria Callas
