A quick google shows that neither have any form of recognised partnership (either marriage or civil partnership) and neither have nationwide anti-discrimination laws - at Scandinavia though as expected Well if you look at how many people took part of that thing. Obviously these surveys aren't anything scientifically reputable but as percentages of the population it's probably similar comparison. Regardless, it's not hard to see that Scandinavia exceeds in this aspect, as well as several others as almost every survey places them in the top five or ten. (Off the top of my head I can remember general happiness surveys, lgbt rights, gender pay equality and maybe even personal safety too) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Like here in Denmark people aren't openly racist if you are white or maybe from a Christian culture because it's similar somehow, but I would hate to a muslim or an immigrant from the Middle East or India. I think they really have a problem with Muslim there is a big clash between the culture and it's not just new immigrants it seems rooted. For example in my work I was in different school of the capital that is supposed to be where there is the most diversity well I was shocked by the fact that kids from immigrants don't mix with the Danes, like people stick to their own kind which is pretty scary. My self I am from France and you can feel the difference, they are quite suspicious with immigrants I don't know exactly why. So racist is more subtle but it exists and the overall feeling I got as an immigrant there is that at the end Danes or Danish culture are better than the others. The fact that their society function well for them doesn't help that feeling of being entitled. Thats what i was getting at... i can picture scandinavia being ahead of my country Canada for gay acceptance. Although the law gives gays full rights here, because of so many immigrants and cultures, its not rare to find people against it on the otherhand all this diversity gives Canadians high tolerance for different cultures and religions and stuff to the point where most ppl are actually blind to it. Its not even subtle. I know as many muslims and Sics ans i do christians or athiests. I know as many whites as I do blacks or brown people. Theres such a mix you generally dont think much of it at all In portgal where i used to live it wasnt like that and ud notice more racism and negative stereotypes even if it was subcontious or subtle. I can picture Scandinavia being the same thing for lack of diversity thats why im saying, they are ahead in some things... It seems that it's a common practice among those immigrants to commit small crimes so they can go to jail, because prisoners there receive a pension from the gov.. They send this money to their families, stay incarcerated, don't spend any money, and when they're released they re-start the whole cycle again...what you said reminded me of this :P And that's just one problem, there are many others, of course...so yeah, I think there probably is some form of discrimination towards foreigners, but it's not exclusive to them... Its not exclusive to them. But i would almost bet my life its way worse than in my Country i live in a city called brampton which is by Toronto, has about 550,000 people. Believe it or not, theres more people living here born outside Canada than in Canada. you could say like half the people here are "minorities". And the other half are from countries or backgrounds that are more common but still make up a mix regardless We accept close to the equivalent of 1% of our population each year in new immigrants one of the highest rates in the world. Coumpound that, and in a lifetime the population doubles from immigration alone which explains how such a high percentage of the population is born outside Canada... Even if ur Canadian, odds are ur parents or grandparents were not, and most "Canadians" have multiple backgrounds. At least in terms of racial or religious judgement but as i said, the downside tho is that because theres so many immigrants from so many places, many ppl are from conservative cultures. That creates a rare phenominom in whih our laws are progressive but then many peoples personal views are actually pretty conservative. The laws fully treat gays like equals for instance but many people here do not support them the one bright side is tho is, because opinions vary so much and theres so many cultures and views, most people tend to not say anything unless asked. With regards to gays, id say here in the Toronto metropolis area at least 30% to 40% (Canada as a whole probably not as bad) are against gays... However most people dont really say anything and keep it to themselves what i like about here is that although many ppl are conservavtive and dont agree with many things, they end up respecting others and dont make problems or a fuss about it for instance crazy protests on streets agianst this or that are less common than in the US even tho many ppl here have simmilar views Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
