Psychedelic 1,098
Yes, but that's just one reason... other reasons rely on mere fact that Rihanna and Katy attrack more GP than Gaga.
StrawberryBlond 14,849
I've been noticising this for a long time too. J.Lo and Nicki Minaj also have really suspiciously high views despite having a distinct lack of hits. It's almost certain that there's fake views being incorporated. There was an expose 2 years ago about fake views on the site and Rihanna and Justin Beiber were some of the worst offenders. Yes, I know a lot of artists with lots of views have a lot of subscribers who are informed of the video immediately and that's where the views come from, but it doesn't explain why even videos that were nowhere near hits have hit the 100 million mark. Rihanna songs that have been all but forgotten by the public are over 100 million views and her Man Down video has over 200 million views despite it being a flop and any controversy it had ending after a week. Her videos hit the mark effortlessly, even though they're not getting promo or being played on the radio or the public don't even know she has a new single out. Her fans must be the only ones who know she's got her latter singles out, so where do all the views come from? In such a short space of time? You make a very good point about how the public can't be watching the videos every time they want to hear the song. So many videos now have long intros and acting throughout and you don't want that when you just want a song for working out or jamming to. When I just want to hear a song, I click on an audio/lyrical video of it on YouTube. The only music videos I watch occasionally are Gaga's. I have very little desire to re-watch a lot of modern music videos as they're so boring. I think it's quite telling that while Katy Perry's Birthday music video (which still has less views than G.U.Y despite being shorter, having one version and being a bigger hit) still hasn't even hit 50 million views after a year but the lyric video has hit 90 million. That proves that the public have no time for an 8 minute Katy Perry video and if they like the song, they'll just listen to the audio of it. I'm surprised this isn't the case for more artists who have boring/too long music videos. I also wonder, can you only get Vevo certified awards for your actual music videos? Can you get them for audio vids, lyrics vids and live performance vids too? No one's ever achieved the 100 million mark for any of those things, so I wasn't sure. Because it looks like Katy's going to be the first to do it with a lyric video.

LoveandMagic 1,731
Maybe, but I always assumed that people just streamed if they wanted to just hear the songs. I personally love the videos that are long because the narration is so strong! Telephone is certainly one that gets more interesting every time I watch. Born This Way feels epic to me, I wanted to see where she would take that unicorn! MTN was Gaga in all her fury, I traveled with her down that emotional road and felt every powerful instinct of hers! G.U.Y. was her F.U., her beauty in strength and defiance! My only qualm was I wish there had been separate videos for each song and more art. I never get bored watching her videos. Even small ones like TEOG I am pretty mesmerized. I think it's great watching her work her magic! Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax." blacklistedd 599
I think thats true with certain videos, Paparazzi, Born This Way, and You and I probably would've reached 100 mill long before they did if their videos weren't longer than the track itself. I don't think the same could be said for Marry the Night or the ARTPOP film though. As for Rihanna and Katy, I think some of Rihannas videos (particularly for her unpopular tracks) reach over 100 mill suspiciously BUT at the same time they're both a lot more popular than Gaga in terms of like general people. Crystalline 993
Plus, Gaga's peak was before the streaming age. I mean, YouTube was big back then, but nothing compared to now... (2012-15) I mean..seriously. Applause was a "flop" according to the other stanbases, but has over 200 million views, had it been released in 2010 and done like it did, I don't know if it'd be at 100 million by now. But yes, you have a great point about people just listening to the song, and it being long with lots of stuff between/before/after is a HUGE turn off for the GP.
