MSM Blood Donations

I was very excited to hear that men who have s-x with men would finally be allowed to donate blood. The lifetime ban was absolutely horrendous and fostered the outrageous belief that all men who have s-x with men are diseased. The ban had no scientific backing whatsoever. I don't think many people on here will disagree with me when I say that.

What is much more controversial however is the regulation that replaced the lifetime ban. I was extremely disappointed to hear that any man who has had any s-xual relation with a man in the past 12 months, protected or not, would still be banned from donating blood. What this does is simply replace an obviously destructive and homophobic regulation with a much less obviously destructive and homophobic regulation.

In effect, this regulation still bans gay people from donating blood for life. It just does so in a less salient way. I believe that this new regulation is even worse because it is still every bit as damaging as the previous regulation, but now less people will be willing to argue with it. It is important that the LGBT community and their allies use their voices to call out this cowardly move as homophobic and unfounded. This move was meant to silence us, not accept us.

In the UK we have the 12 month ban.

it's so ****ing dumb, like what gay man is not going to have had s-x in the last 12 months, like 10% and below? It literally does jack ****

We have 12 month ban in Sweden too.

I am perfectly healthy and I want to be able to donate, but if they don't want it it's their loss.

Tbh. The discrimination :madge:

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

in Mexico no one gives a ****

as long as the blood is free of AIDS it doesn't matter the personal life of the donator

It IS discrimination but at the same time politicians can justify it because the rates for HIV are so high in gay people atm

But that just shows a need for greater public awareness, NOT discrimination

This ban simply tries to deal with the issues that a problem causes without actually dealing with the problem itself imo

Me.

But, really, this ban is kind of dumb. Like, are MSM the most likely to have STIs and STDs or something because I'm pretty sure MSW and WSM are just as likely if not more I guess

Like, if they are going to do this ban, they might as well do it with everyone else and say that anyone who has had s-x in the past 12 months cannot donate. It's ridiculous and I'm not standing for it :neyde:
