JesseBabe 837
Honestly, even though this era was a hot mess, I really enjoyed this album. I had just remembered hearing "Applause" on Z100 for the first time and losing it, dancing in the car with my friend even though I didn't know the words. I was just so happy she was back and I was getting new music. I remember previewing her album on iTunes Radio and enjoying every track. "G.U.Y" for some reason at the time stuck out to me a lot, maybe because it sounds super old "The Fame" Gaga in a way. Idk. Never really understood wtf was going on with all the single changes at the time, one minute it was Venus, the next it was DWUW, then Gypsy, then we got G.U.Y. It was just a wreck. I just wish this album got the promotion/album singles it deserved.

Hexxx 2,244
it was a breath of fresh air from the 80s quality of BTW but it lacked what gaga's previous songs had. still a likeable able Lady Gaga/ Madonna/Lana /Azealia Banks/ Jazmine Sullivan/ DEEE-LITE/ Moko

TEANUS 14,969
August-November were FLAWLESS months. Applause was stomping on expectations, Do What U Want followed and stayed #1 for days (yes, it was a promo single fueled by pre-orders, but it's still impressive that it lasted that long), then the album came out and everyone loved it. But, then the first week sales came and people started hating the album (wow! you mean "fans" began to dislike the album after the first week sales, hmmmm). Then she lost her manager, fans (yes fans more than anyone honestly) and critics attacked her, Interscope sidetracked the DWUW video, and she went into a slight mental breakdown. Honestly, I don't think the era was that hard to save. I think G.U.Y. was a good choice for third single, not the best choice, but not a terrible one either. The song is classic Gaga: experimental but still catchy and poppy. However, there were obvious flaws in its release/ promotion. First of all, there's the video release. Yes, the idea of announcing the video right after her HUGE performance at SXSW that jump started the era again and then releasing snippets of it and discussing it on TV was awesome, but, it wasn't perfect. The biggest thing is, why was it released it on a Saturday? (And don't say she doesn't care about charts or I shouldn't either. Gaga loves her big productions and so do we and without the chart success, we can't have those bug productions). The streaming tracking week is from Monday to Sunday, so only one full day of streams were counted (and like 4-5 hours of another day). Thus, the song only debuted at #76. Ok, the song debuted at #76, not that hard of a fix, other pop stars have had tracks complete miss the Hot 100 (see Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna, etc.). All the song needed was some TV performances, not just David Letterman. I know she was rehearsing for Roseland and the artRave, but honestly, a simple dance your heart out performance on the MTV Movie Awards and/ or the iHeart Radio Awards wouodnt have been hard to pull off, it is LADY GAGA were talking about, she's dealt with and been successful with strenuous schedules before. Plus, there were other things that could've been done to save the single that just weren't there. Digital promotions like discounts and iTunes banners shouldn't be frowned upon by fans as "cheap", or say that Gaga shouldnt stoop to that level. It's done but every big artist and, why not promote your music you put your heart and soul into? A strategic discount around a TV performance can do WONDERS for a single. Plus, she could've taken one of the recordings from one of the May performances at artRave and had it broadcasted on the Billboard Music Awards, American Idol, The Voice, or something like that. But, moving aside from the G.U.Y. single release, there was the absolute dropping of the era. There was never a fourth single from the album and we were left in the dark surrounding the possibility of one. It was understandable why there wasn't a fourth single, but still, why leave us asking questions and completely clueless as to what was going on? Alright, moving on, there were still several positive possibilities in the future of the era. We still had hopes for the app, but, it kept getting delayed. One would think, "she's just making sure it's perfect and adding more features to it". But, we were left in the dark again, and were left asking questions as to what was going on. It was okay that nothing came from the app, but, why allow us to get our hopes up? I'm not saying we always need solid information as to everything that's going on but, what's the point of disappointing us once again? Overall, the era was fun and a heck of a roller coaster to follow. It started off flawless with Applause slating and then Do What U Want seemingly lining up to follow. Both singles delivered us with great performances like her big VMA comeback and The Voice performance with Xtina. It had some bumps but, honestly, the months of January and February were fun. Yes we were in the dark but, am I only one who thought it was fun to be discussing the third single, speculating what it was, etc? And also things were only looking up with the so called "spring awakening". Plus, like the OP says, the era delivered us with the G.U.Y. video, which is comparable to videos like Bad Romance and Judas in quality, and, is the only video to film at Hearst Castle. I think the ARTPOP era is VASTLY overrated and always will be, but I don't think it deserves it, as, it is mostly directed at its level of success rather than its actual quality. Sorry for the long read, but I hope you enjoyed that British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS

Blueskye 1,087
ARTPOP continues to give me life everyday. It's so much fun and gives me 'out-there' pop music that you don't get from others. Who else would give you a song where you stop every five seconds, throw your arms up in a V and yell VENUS! This gives me much enjoyment whilst driving to work
mucinex 4,260
Gaga came from such a hard time in her life to put out this album and everyone just put her back at hard times, even fans. i'm glad she pulled through though and is slaying the game with THE tony bennett! i'm surprised she didn't go into another blackout after that but she stayed strong, she's a trooper and that's why i love her!
