We don't celebrate it at all (Lithuania) and our government ignore the official invitation to the commemoration held in Russia every year because for us Victory day is the beginning of Soviet occupation which lasted for 50 years.

I find your post to be ignorant and offensive.

​I'm not supportive of Russian politics in any way but this celebration is not about politics at all, it's much more than that. it's about the victory over Nazi forces, it's about the end of the World War II. 

Soviet Union had a decisive role in the victory over Nazis no matter how you look at it, and if you don't like Russia and its politics it's fine, but please don't disregard or show disrespect to the result of long and hard fight that millions of Soviet soldiers went through to make the victory possible.

yes, preach the Soviet Union for having a role in destroying the nazi madness, but let's ignore the fact that the soviet union occupied and did their own genocide by deporting and thus killing my and MILLIONS of other people's grandparents and great grandparents! but who cares, right? because these small and irrelevant countries like Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and others are nobodies! 

I'm glad that the soviet union took part in defeating the nazis. that was the only good thing they did. but that was just for them to take even more control, I doubt they cared at all about the jews or mass killings caused by world war 2, can we remember the Molotov-Ribentrop pact ( although Hitler broke it)?

I'd absolutely be ok if it was celebrated just for what it is as you say, but in countries like mine, people take it too far and they express their positive opinions about Russian politics and how they want the Soviet Union back (occupying the countries that were occupied at that time).

in my opinion, this celebration should be celebrated in Russia only.

I can't tell it for sure but to me it seems like Nazis would have caused much more damage and deaths if they came out victorious in the end.

For example, almost 12% of the population of Latvia at that time died then.

​15 million Soviets died for this. That's a big thing for Russia  and it's good that they hold a minute silence for it, just like European countries do for all people who died in the second worldwar. The military parade afterwards is totally unnecessary and stems from nationalism and patriotism - the biggets causes of war (together with religion, ofcourse).

Okay, enough. Every side had it loses and this thread was not about who lost more and about who supports each politics. It was the celebration of the victory over nazis.
