Phoenix 17,395
Victory Day or 9 May marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the part of the Second World War.known in the Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War where the Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany. It was first inaugurated in the sixteen republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on 8 May 1945. The Soviet government announced the victory early on 9 May after the signing ceremony in Berlin.Though the official inauguration happened in 1945 (which means it has been celebrated since 1946), the holiday became a non-labour day only in 1965 and only in some of the countries. In the former Soviet Union this festival was celebrated to commemorate the Red Army's victory over the Nazi forces.Today it is observed by (non-laboured day): Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Israel,Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia,Mongolia, Moldova, Montenegro,Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan,Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan (also celebrated/commemorated in some places of Germany and United Kingdom). 💎

doveve 526
We don't celebrate it at all (Lithuania) and our government ignore the official invitation to the commemoration held in Russia every year because for us Victory day is the beginning of Soviet occupation which lasted for 50 years. Phoenix 17,395
This "celebration" should be ignored if we are against Russian politics. Well if you are against their politics ignore it/don't celebrate, no big deal. 💎
EdX 2,901
Well if you are against their politics ignore it/don't celebrate, no big deal. I try to. But it's sad that all of Riga (my city) is filled with Russians wearing army gear. BTW, are you saying that you agree with Russian politics?
Rino 5,124
This "celebration" should be ignored if we are against Russian politics.I find your post to be ignorant and offensive.I'm not supportive of Russian politics in any way but this celebration is not about politics at all, it's much more than that. it's about the victory over Nazi forces, it's about the end of the World War II. Soviet Union had a decisive role in the victory over Nazis no matter how you look at it, and if you don't like Russia and its politics it's fine, but please don't disregard or show disrespect to the result of long and hard fight that millions of Soviet soldiers went through to make the victory possible. 月にかわって、おしおきよ!🌙

Thank you for this post, this is exactly what I wanted to write after I read some posts here, but you were first. I hate how many people want to rewrite history nowadays only because they don't like a certain country. Those who fought and died for peace deserve a great deal of respect! Rino 5,124
I'm sorry if I sound offensive but I'm against celebrating the victory of a country and army that occupied my home country and deported and almost killed my grandparents. yet again, it's not about the victory of a country, it's not about the victory of any politics, it's about the victory of any person that ever fought against Nazi forces. I'm sorry about misfortune and loss that your country and grandparents were inflicted upon by Soviet Union, but then again this day should be celebrated just for what it is - and it is the day when Nazi forces were put to an end. 月にかわって、おしおきよ!🌙

Thank You! I'd absolutely be ok if it was celebrated just for what it is as you say, but in countries like mine, people take it too far and they express their positive opinions about Russian politics and how they want the Soviet Union back (occupying the countries that were occupied at that time).in my opinion, this celebration should be celebrated in Russia only.
