As most of you know, it is very difficult to release a 5th single and for it to be a hit due to increased album sales, era getting stale, and various other reasons. Billboard has labelled Marry The Night as a successful 5th single despite all this. Marry The Night peaked at #29 in the US and went on to sell over 700,000 copies.

Article:

Last week, Chart Beat dove into the strategy behind the five single releases from Ariana Grande's second album, My Everything, as fifth single "One Last Time" continues to scale various charts. In a follow-up tweet, the question was posed to you: What other songs released as fifth singles from albums went on to become classics?

Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine, "1-2-3"
Fergie, "Clumsy"
Genesis, "In Too Deep"
Genesis, "Never a Time"
Debbie Gibson, "Staying Together"
Gin Blossoms, "Until I Fall Away"
Ariana Grande, "One Last Time"
Janet Jackson, "Let's Wait Awhile"
Janet Jackson, "Come Back to Me"
Lady Gaga, "Marry the Night"
Don Henley, "New York Minute"
Whitney Houston, "Love Will Save the Day"

Not sure how to feel about that. Nice to see it getting positive press, but a classic? :blehga:

Marry The Night is still a famous song, many people know it, okay it's not Just Dance, Poker Face, Applause, Alejandro, Bad Romance, Telephone, Born This Way, The Edge Of Glory. Wouldn't call it a classic tho.

More of a classic than G.U.Y. :green:

I'm not totally sure if I agree with the "classic" part for quite a few of the songs that I know from the list, but they're kick ass songs anyway: Last Friday Night, La Isla Bonita, Wait A Minute, Marry The Night, Clumsy, One Last Time, Take A Bow, LoveStoned :legend:

I do want to know what they define as "classic" though; I expected them to define it at the top of the article to lead into the rest but they didn't :noparty:

Oddly enough, it's a substantially better song than the majority of Gaga's more well-known tracks. But I don't know if it can be called a classic just yet. Then again, they also have "One Last Time" on the same list. :green:

MTN wasn't THAT big of a flop as everyone like to claim it... it did decent I think... it's known by a lot of people unlike G.U.Y. that is the definiton of a flop...
