They expected to have free speech, which is a constitutional right for all American citizens. They didn't deserve to be hunted down by idiot extremists in a country that protects free speech and gives them the right to do exactly what they were doing. In the U.S., offending someone's religion is not an act that is punishable by death.

I mean... they didn't expect an extremist to show up? They always do and always will.

Well, they did have heightened security and that's why both gunmen are dead.

Interestingly enough, in January, there was a Pro-Islamic rally in the same building.

Flamebait? This isn't some pop girl forum we are talking about here. These are human beings with rights and extremists muderers.

They were shot because they were a danger to unarmed civilians. They came in to murder people, therefore they were shot. That's how it works.

If it was an Islamic forum, yes. This is more like some Madonna fanatic declaring any disrespect to Madonna on the internet off-limits, and worthy of denial of service attacks and real life harassment.

Eeeeeek I'm not even surprised :ohno: On one hand you don't want to rattle the bear's cage, but then on the other hand you don't want to send a message that the bear is some celestial being that is above having their cage rattled

They did a Mahoma drawing contest when they know that's an easy way to piss off muslim extremists. And i said mess at those muslims taking the bait and going to shoot them or w.e. they were going to do and proving the people who made the contest right. It's called a comparison, go fume somewhere else.

So? They have every right to draw what they want, just as the Muslims had a right to have a rally in January.

Not fuming, just stating how free speech and constitutional rights work in the US.

I'm not saying they shouldn't. But given the backstory regarding drawing him i feel their intention was clearly to stirr **** up.

It almost sounds like some of you are blaming innocent victims of a shooting attack.

There is nothing wrong with drawing a cartoon but there is something wrong with allowing the activities and threats of any sort of extremist to censor us or limit the right of free speech.

As the famous quote says "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

This is what we find important in America, whether you think it is dumb or not.

No, their backstory is that they live in a country where free speech is respected and is a constitutional right. Religious extremists do not have the right to take away anyone's constitutional rights. Their goal is to intimidate, and it didn't work. The event was held and the extremists ended up dead.

I don't like how free speech is being abused as an excuse to discriminate people these days. Free speech isn't a constitutional law because people thought the right to discriminate and offend people was so amazing and important. It was meant to make people able to criticize the government and high people, especially by media.

I really hope that the US gets a constitutional anti-discrimination law, they need it.

Religious idiotic extremists don't have the right to take away someone's consritutional rights? Don't make me laugh. Not when the US is only legalizing gay marriage now.

It was an anti-Islam rally, with people like Geert Wilders talking who want to take away muslims' consritutional rights by forbidding the Quran and taxing headscarves.

I agree with you about the freedom of religion law, that's being used to discriminate against gays. However, that's different than free speech and the right to assemble. Free speech covers everything from books, media, articles, plays, artwork, music, concerts, etc.

And I don't agree that the denial of human rights to the LGBT community is in any way constitutional. My statement stands...the religious idiots had no right to take away gay people's constitutional rights!

Yes, and even though I don't agree with the purpose behind this rally...or the support Al Qaeda rally in January either, both groups had a constitutional right to assemble. I may not agree with either group of people,  but their assembly is still covered under the constitution as a legal right for all citizens.
