Hellspont 1,468
http://abcnews.go.com/US/hundreds-people-clash-police-baltimore-mall/story?id=30622868 Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency today following a violent gathering in Baltimore, where people threw objects at police, set cars on fire and looted businesses. Hogan also activated the National Guard. The standoff began near the Mondawmin Mall in the northwest part of the city, the Baltimore Police Department said, as the group threw bricks, rocks and other objects at officers. Protesters were seen climbing on a police cruiser and damaging several others. Police tweeted that people were also looting businesses and setting cars on fire. One of the looted businesses was a CVS Pharmacy, but a spokesman for CVS said the store was closed earlier in the day out of an abundance of caution so no customers or employees were there at the time. Tonight's baseball game in Baltimore between the Orioles and the White Sox has been postponed in the wake of the violence, the team said. The clash comes hours after the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, the man who died last week after being in police custody. Police are investigation that incident. Baltimore police said today there was a credible threat against law enforcement officers, as members from gangs including the Bloods, Crips and Black Guerilla Family "have entered into a partnership to 'take-out' law enforcement officers," according to a news release. Navy 495
Baltimore is 45 minutes from me and I was in Baltimore for Kesha's concert last night on the outskirts of the town though so I was safe.Hopefully they get the national guard in there and this mess is cleared up. ****ing idiots, how is anyone going to take what you're protesting (rioting in this case) about if you're going to act like a bunch of wild animal criminals. Disgusting people just want an excuse to act up. Get a damn job people

Morphine Prince 109,768
Looting and committing criminal acts only works AGAINST decreasing police brutality. The opposers are now "YOU SEE? These THUGS got what they deserved!" And police officers get stereotyped and hurt as well. No one benefits from things like this. The people doing this are showing their true colors as the UNCIVILIZED CRIMINALS they are.
ItsTommyBitch 12,640
I'm a pacifist, so I don't really support this at all already in that light, but I'm already tired of the whole "Peace is the only way to make a change!" attitude people are going to be spouting... because its really ignorant actually in regards to you know, how any revolution has like ever happened, especially in this county Like, Respectability Politics just flat out almost never work :air: Its precisely because things get chaotic and sometimes violent (unfortunately ) that change will be made, and ears will be opened, and conversation will be made, because the media generally takes peaceful protesters much less serious than ones who cause a ruckus . Unfortunately we live in a society where the false narrative of "peacefully sit back until someone fixes the problem and gives you equal rights and treatment" is somehow the only solution, so this looks bad on the entire movement for that reason, on top of the fact that violence is really never condoned by people (Me included) People are going to look @ this and say "Oh, well black people can't be polite and quiet about their people being murdered in the streets, therefore we shouldn't pay them any attention" Obv. there are ways to protest non violently and those are always the right answer but its just a narrative I wish people would actually critically examine, because it really doesn't make a lick of sense. Even worse, these stereotypes put in place by the system are so self-perpetuating because of things like this, despite sometimes them being necessary to break away from the system :dead: What an endless circle of oppression :nooo: 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

T3ARS 4,132
I can't believe this is happening in my state I understand that people are upset but this is not the way to go about protesting. We (as black people) need to show people that we are better than what the media has presented us to be. I absolutely hate when people refer to black people as animals, but what can I say in situations like this. I really wish people would channel their angry into something positive. Instead of rioting after a black person is killed how about we protest for better education in our schools? how about we protest to get d--gs off the streets where our children can get a hold of them? This is truly heartbreaking. It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. - Audre Lorde
