InsideOutright 1,118
The song had literally every single reason to do well on the charts. The only reason it didn't achieve anything was because it was by Lady Gaga. Thats it. I don't care what any other asshole on this forum says about it not being a good single choice or whatever other nonsense. There was literally no reason it shouldn't have been up there with Timber and Dark Horse and all the other basic **** that filled the top 10 at the time. It was on par with all of them. It was made for radio. People just did not want to consume her and radio djs didnt either. It had nothing to do with the song itself. Had radio djs forced it down everyones throats anyway like they do with every other popular artist than people would've consumed it. This is exactly what I was saying. After Gaga's post-BTW blackout, radio wasn't really interested in her anymore. The ARTPOP era was the start of radio's bias against Gaga. Some radio stations, not the majority, refused to play Applause and others dropped it very quickly, but it still did well enough overall. DWUW was a mess as we all know, and no doubt it would still be getting decent play today if it had a video, but it wasn't the radio hit it should have been because of that. All the radio stations around here still love to play songs that were popular around the same time as Applause or DWUW, even if they charted lower, but they just won't touch those two songs anymore. Radio doesn't want to play her anymore because she's Lady Gaga. They think she's only good for nostalgic plays of Poker Face and Just Dance, and that's sad. This also hurts the chances of good radio support for her LG5 lead single, but I'm hoping she'll pull through there. We have RedOne back after all. Mama Ru 994
It had terrible callout scores (listeners rates) hence why it wasn't picked up by radioThis. For the most part, radio stations don't just decide not to give a song from a huge artist a chance. They do a bit of market research and see if listeners like the song and that has a heavy impact on how much it gets played. Im blonde, I'm skinny, I'm rich, and I'm a little bit of a bitch. Helloo 39
I'm glad I've gotten to hear it four times when it came out on the radio and just last month, they used the instrumental to present a radio contest award for some girl winning $5,000. I recorded it too because I was so happy to hear it!
Oscar 1,031
probably not. it's a great track but so is marry the night and mtn at least got radio airplay so I have a feeling that g.u.y wouldn't have done so well, despite the fact that it's a good song. Bradley 59,023
dont offend Dark Horse by comparing it to anything in ARTPOP please You cannot be a fan. You must be a hater. I mean even if you dislike ARTPOP you wouldn't comment it in such a negative way, in fact you sound like you despise ARTPOP. Dark Horse is just another commercial basic song. I admit it's a bop, but it's basic and it's undeniable. I mean ARTPOP might not be perfect but it's an impressive album and Do What U Want >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dark Horse I cannot stand people bashing this beautiful album when it's so important to some fans and Gaga herself. It's such a great album. It is and you guys are blinded by the charts. If G.U.Y. charted in the top 10 you guys would definitely have different opinions. It was very different song. both structure and trap influences were something new for radio at that time
Applause 650
Last year (my senior year in HS) my teacher had the radio on and I heard in class Applause, DWUW, and GUY all because they were on the radio around that time. I heard classmates singing to DWUW, and moved around to Applause... But... When GUY came on.. NOTHING. I watched this multiple times because it came on a few times throughout the year. I found it interesting to monitor, without even interacting so I could see results without my input. There just wasn't as much interest as the first 2 singles. blacklistedd 599
This. For the most part, radio stations don't just decide not to give a song from a huge artist a chance. They do a bit of market research and see if listeners like the song and that has a heavy impact on how much it gets played. Yeah but it had low listener scores because shes Lady Gaga. It had nothing to do with the song itself. People did not want to consume her. Its not that it didn't have all capability of being in the top 10 otherwise. Economy 49,550
im surprised it failed as it was one of her more mainstream songs that being said, it did still get some airplay in the beggining and sales in relation to airplay was terrible, and ratings from people were negative so clearly ppl werent interested and trying to force it might of just made ppl dislike Gaga more

There just wasn't as much interest as the first 2 singles.Do you know how much promotion Do What U Want and Applause had compared to G.U.Y.? Trust me if Gaga did more performances, like Katy did at the 2014 Grammys with Dark Horse, everyone would know the words to G.U.Y. The material itself is good, it's Gaga and Interscope who killed it with bad promotion.
