HighwayGuy 1,498
It was played a lot by a major station here in the UK and it still flopped
Computer 10,973
I don't really think so. It was sonically a really great song but the title and idea was just too obscure and didn't make sense for radio listeners. I think that had an impact so I just don't know if more radio play would have done it. 💚💛💕❣⭕💢💢 | ⓜⓔⓡⓡⓨ ©ⓗⓡⓘⓢⓣⓜⓐⓢ
MelbHawker 6,583
Nah. The instrumental itself isn't radio friendly. Look, radio played DWUW even it wasn't doing great in iTunes then they suddenly dropped G.U.Y.The chorus is weak imo, that's the flaw of the song. Many ppl said they got tired fast listening to the song. Each to their own I guess. The instrumental to me is perfect for radio.DWUW came off of Applause's longevity/success though, & it did under-perform. GUY had nothing to ride off, and was released a really long time after DWUW, wasn't it?
HermioneGranger 608
It would have needed performances and other kinds of promotion too.
Stephen 30,423
Yes lol There's so many ****ing cynics on this forum I swear to god. Everyone I've played it to loves it. It's instantly catchy and it's about s-x, so yeah
Tove Lo 2,481
Pretty sure something can only become a hit if it is played on the radio Because then after that, people are tricked into thinking "Oh this song is good because it's playing on the radio so others think it's good so I'm going to buy it." Radios just didn't wanna give it a chance and that's the only way it could be a hit (or if it was a viral video which it wasn't stupid enough to be one). hop on that **** like a maniac
Bio 23,538
No one wanted nothing to do with Gaga at that time, so no.

If it had been played fairly by the radio, would it have been a hit?
Dangerous Man 9,245
DWUW came off of Applause's longevity/success though, & it did under-perform. GUY had nothing to ride off, and was released a really long time after DWUW, wasn't it? I doubt that's the reason of Dwuw radio success and Applause wasn't a smash to affect the latter single's success. FourFiveSeconds was an applause sized hit too yet American Oxygen isn't even inside the top 40 of pop BC the song isn't just radio friendly. barcodemonster 3,525
Speaking of the terrible radio performance I am lucky enough to say that I did hear it once. It's nice to be able to say that I've heard all of her singles on the radio OT: the song reacted poorly to promotion compared to Gypsy, so no I don't think it would've been a hit scan my barcode
Cody Draco 2,531
I don't think G.U.Y. ever had a chance to be a radio hit. It's an epic song. Gypsy, MANiCURE, or Sexxx Dreams would've faired better. Question: Would the word "s-x" be censored out? I don't think it would.
danwasd 2,444
A fart with a good amount of radio airplay can become a hit
SlaeUrAnus 15,955
No.Apart from it being mistaken for 's-x', Gaga basically was flogging a dead era. G.U.Y did not flop because it was not on the radio, it flopped because the GP was not here for Gaga anymore. In my messy era.
