In my world, with the right people, without worldwide capitalism, Socialism would work through democratic means Well, your world must not be the same as mine. Socialism has never worked through democratic means. It has always been forcibly imposed and all Socialist countries have a long record of authoritarian governments and human rights violations. bionic 50,111
I think socialism would work better as the UK rather than independent Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland etc. It's a large effort.

ShockPop 7,747
Yes they are. In my country, there's basically a 'middle' field of parties including the liberals (40 seats - in the government), progressive socialdemocratic party (36 seats - in the government), socialist liberal progressive democrats (12 seats - in the befriended opposition, votes in favour 93% of the time of government proposals), christian democrats (13 seats - opposition but votes in favour 91% of the time), Greens (4 seats - votes in favour ~60% of the time), christian conservatives (3 seats - befriended opposition, almost always votes in favour), christian leftists (5 seats - befriended opposition, almost always votes in favour). Then you have the far-left socialist party (15 seats) and far-right nationalist party (15 seats) and the animal rights activism party (2 seats) which basically never vote in favour and will never get into a government. It works very well in my opinion, because almost every party somewhat agrees and there's always some sort of a compromise, making the government neither left-winged nor right-winged. Wouldn't it be way better if everybody got what they wanted somewhat? A coallition between Labour, SNP, Plaid Camyu (is this the name?) and the Greens would be really nice. They somewhat believe in the same, and they will be able to compromise and give everybody a bit of what they want Farage lies a lot. For example the 2% 'of total [government] spending' he talked about, which is actually 2% of the total ECONOMY. That's a big difference. He also doesn't know what the consequences of leaving the EU and Schengen would be. It's generally assumed, by both big businesses and people with a socialist mindset, that leaving the EU would have great, great consequences. Denying people healthcare based on ethnicity is immoral. Won't get further into that. But let's talk more about the defense spending. Socialists/Greens believe that more prosperity and democracy brings more overall stability. UKIP doesn't want to fix the core problem - dissatisfaction in poor countries or countries with huge inequality, but wants to fight the effect of this dissatisfaction. That's not contributing, and actually makes the situation worse in these countries. Look at what happened to Iraq and Afghanistan. War isn't going to fix issues, not in the long term, not in the short term. Diplomacy is what will help a country. And first of all, UKIP wants to leave the EU. A diplomatic disaster basically. UKIP wants to block citizens of other countries from access to UK public services and social welfare, which is also extremely bad for diplomatics. They want to cut development spending by a lot, which is also bad for diplomatics and will cause political instability in regions, which will also cause more defense spending, negating the effect of cutting the development spending. Leaving the EU is bad for export and thus bad for the economy. That the population has to sink is not right either. A sinking population is extremely bad for the economy, as a country will get into a negative spiral of more pension spendings, lower house prices, more unemployment, etc. Building houses creates jobs for many. And in the end, the party doesn't actually fit your ideology, so I wouldn't recommend voting for them in the first place As long as Labour and the Conservatives form a majority that's not going to happen anytime soon, eventhough it's unfair and undemocratic I don't care about other countries though. I need t know i will have a job and a roof over my head first. Denying healthcare has nothing to do with ethnicity and everything to do with logic. Pay our national health service if you want to use it. We all do. The immigration rules would be more fair too. Right now any non EU skilled immigrants are being turned away in favour of unskilled europeans. Stupid. If for nothing else, UKIP are the only ones trying to change things. The others don't want change.

The others don't want change. It's not progressive what UKIP is, it's regressive. They want it back to how it used to be, eventhough things changed for a reason. If you want a job and a roof over your head, it's way better to vote Labour than UKIP.I don't see how fairness plays a role in your vision if people who are from a different country need to pay for their healthcare, eventhough that might mean that they'll be thousands and thousands of pounds in debt.Anyways. It's not going to benefit the economy to spend more on defense, it's unnecessary spending that in most cases doesn't help any country's stability. Over 75% of development aid is made back because it creates tons of jobs for the own country's people, and the export to these countries improves. Next to that, political stability in that country improves (long-term effect) which is beneficial because it lowers future defense spendings. Also, diplomatic relations improve over the long term.Denying social security to Brittons living outside the UK, will worsen diplomatic relations. Same with leaving the EU. That could hurt export and import.I do think that the EU needs reforms - cut agricultural subsides, focus more on infrastructure projects in East-Europe and distribute immigrants better over all of Europe so it's not that Bulgaria, Greece and Italy take about 75% of the immigrants and the rest of Europe the rest. The Eurozone needs better checks, and the whole EU could be made more competitive by removing unnecessary rules here and there. But leaving the EU as a whole isn't the best way to solve these (actually not that big) issues. When it's skilled immigrants coming to the country, it's 'they took our jobs!', and it's the same with unskilled immigrants. I don't see why there's such a big difference. I also think that it's unfair to attract skilled people from countries that could use them better, which they usually come from.

It has always been forcibly imposed and all Socialist countries have a long record of authoritarian governments and human rights violations. Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands next to being the 'happiest' countries in the world, they also have some of the best education, the best healthcare in the world, are the richest European countries, have the lowest unemployment in Europe and are the most democratic countries in the world with some of the free-est press in the world I think that socialism would work better if all parts of the UK got their independency. It's easier to fight corruption, be close to the people and have public services in a smaller country.

If countries want their people sent here for medical care then pay. It's not free for us and shouldn't be for them.

It's easier to fight corruption, be close to the people and have public services in a smaller country. Germany though. We have the lowest unemployement (after Austria), Europe largest economy and a good healthcare as well. I think the idea of socialism like in Sweden only works when the country is small. Germany puts socialism and capitalism together and it works very well.
gagzus 23,140
been keeping up with the debates & i can honestly say i neither want any of them to run the country nor can tell who is actually gonna win inb4 another hung parliament & we end up with joint labour & conservative rule. I think i'll just vote the Green Party because they're the least likely to win

gagzus 23,140
A hung parliament seems certain at this pointi pray it isn't involving either UKIP or Conservative because, Nigel & David have very overpowering personalities & views, they will most likely step over the other party leader because David did it with Nick tbh.
