Mabel 205
VMA 2009. God, I still get chills
Oscar 1,031
VMAs because the theatrics and overall creativity behind the performance made it timeless. Oscars is up there because of her vocal ability but VMAs is more pleasant to watch because it's just wow
bionic 50,107
VMA. I'd throw the Oscars down so fast
Tumblr 1,846
VMA's 2009 had EVERYTHING that Gaga is! The theatrics of the blood flowing from her costume and the incredible staging! The fashion! The iconic piano playing that showed artistry! The flawless raw vocals the cultivated that audience! The rigorous dance routine!Overall the wackyness and insane talent that is Lady Gaga was shown on that stage that night in 2009! Lady Palutena 3,147
Are these the last video copies in existence? Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.
Jed 7,716
her vocals were like her atypical ones from 2008-2010, she's never had major dance skills tbh only in music videos bc of editing never live & the stage was meh to me tbhI feel like in that performance we saw Gaga at her best. That hunger in her eyes, and the way she sings the chorus the second time when she is on the cane... It was ambition in it's purest form. I remember seeing a similar passion when she performed Love Game on DWTS but this was a whole other level. Yes the main reason people remember it is because of the blood but that performance legitimatized her as a shock artist and as a force in the industry. Basically the VMAs solidified her as an artist and the Oscars solidified her (showed everyone who didn't know already) that she is an exceptional vocalist as well. Both performances are crucial to the Gaga construct we know today, in my opinion.
Haroon 49,685
I enjoy watching the VMA one more than the Oscars one overall The Oscars one is great to listen to, but less exciting to watch for me, so I'll choose to save the VMA one

The mechanical horse attempted to do the same but it wasn't as symbolic/artsy fartsy. The Alejandro video/Judas video was shock art too, I would say (with popstar inclinations/overtones of course). The kermit outfit, the complete genre shift with c2c, and the AMA DWUW performance also all get honorable mentions. She may not be a shock jock like Howard Stern (or Madonna to some extent), but in comparison to Miley, Katy and Gaga's other contemporaries she definitely takes the cake. But maybe that's just me
Bad Bromance 5,809
VMA, since it made her who she is today. If there was no VMA one there probably wouldn't be the OSCARS one either. I was going to pick the Oscars performance but what you stated above makes perfect sense and is so very true! The Oscars performance couldn't have happened if she hadn't become the big star she is now. I don't care what you think about unless it is about me. But Bowie and madonna were around for years and years and people still called Judas/Alejandro/even BTW an abomination.
SlaeUrAnus 15,970
No Oscar performance without VMA 2009. Period. In my messy era.
Gagadonna 10,801
Oscars. It may be her career saving moment, but it's also her career redefining moment. It revealed her true talent to the world. She was praised like never before.
