I don't really think an online poll is the best way to determine one's influence. I know TIME is respectful and all, but tbh this just indicates that Gaga's fanbase has more time on their hands to sit and vote for a poll.

​It isn't, but it's an effective way among websites to gauge the preferences of their audience, hence it being a reader's poll - aimed for TIME to know who their readers think are influential. The results also give an idea of how much dedication each fan base are willing to give for the people whom they think are influential and/or who have influenced their lives the most. I mean, these public figures are influential enough to convince individuals all over the world, regardless of race, gender, and s-xual preference, to allot their time and effort for an online poll, unless they're monetarily paid or physically forced.

Anyway, I doubt the results will significantly affect the list of the world's most influential which TIME will release very soon, much like their previous reader's polls. And more than anything, this poll acts as an extension of their campaign to drum up the interest over their annual TIME 100 list.
