She started grabbing critical acclaim + success with her two times Grammy winner (one of them being Album Of The Year) album, "Fearless", after which she has sold at least 1 million copies on the release week of every album she's released (Speak Now, Red and 1989, which almost reaches the mark Britney has, on a time where album sales have dropped meaningfully). Let's not forget.

Except for maybe the Beatles, I don't know if any artists or bands have had one flawless era after another. The music may be great, but so many things can go wrong with promotion, management, trend changes/consumer tastes, the economy, etc. Even highly successful eras can have bad moments or an under performing single or two.I think there are just too many factors involved for anyone to achieve perfection. Even superstars like Taylor and Katy, who've done extremely well and had consecutively great eras, have had under performing singles and misteps.

So yes, despite the fact that I expect Gaga to have a very long (and mostly very prosperous) career, I expect she will have eras that may not go as planned or under perform. I think that is perfectly normal. Hopefully with each slump she learns and grows as an artist and the music, which will outlast all the hype, stands strong and true to who she is as an artist and a person.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

wow I didn't know b-day under performed it's the Honeybee album that I like the most!

And yeah she will have more underperforming eras but the next one isn't the case, everything is accommodating in her favor and the media has been a beeyotch to her for a long time already, they have to back off and act hypocritically good again like in Brtney's case with femme fatale. It's such a shame that media respects artists that aren't out of the box more like TS or Katy, that's why I doubt these girls have underperforming eras in the future

Mister Gaga

Of course, every artist do. I think she'll have several eras of underperforms, commercially speaking. But not a single era with bad material

It's normal for a career to fluctuate. No artist ever remains at the top forever. There's always room for failure, but also always room for improvement.

Of course she will, it's only happened to every successful artist that's ever lived.

Something like TFM is serendipitous. Her music has been consistently excellent, but there are countless other factors that contribute to a top-flight era, many of which she cannot control. It's next to impossible to predict how the chips will fall.

C2C won a Grammy and ARTPOP didnt... Katy has never won a Grammy but Teenage Dream is critically acclaimed and broke records.

I guess we need a meaning for "Underperforming"

I agree I don't think I would be able to stand another era of crazy shenanigans like ARTPOP.

yeah, it was the epitome of messes of mess

even bionic which sold less looks more cohesive as an era compared to AP
