CannaeDrive 3,412
I'm seriously flabbergasted by the level of her artistic dedication and how much she is able to invest herself in such incredible endeavor. I feel so ****ing humbled by this amazing woman.I feel like Gaga has a lot of talents that are just beginning to manifest themselves. I know there is so much more to her than what we have already seen. I am excited to watch her talents unravel and become revealed as she gets older. There is no telling of what she can potentially do and create. That's why she is so fascinating to follow, you can feel that the best is yet to come and there are a lot of (good) surprises along the ride. Kayla 7,595
The mental and physical strength she needed to endure this is phenomenal. The rollercoaster of emotions surely came from a huge variety of places in her mind and heart. She could have also been experiencing something psychological that happens in BDSM called "subspace." Other sites describe it more directly than I could, so I'll just quote:During the scene, the intense experiences of both pain and pleasure trigger a sympathetic nervous system response, which causes a release of epinephrine from the suprarenal glands, as well as a dump of endorphins and enkephalins. These natural chemicals, part of the fight or flight response, produce the same effect as a morphine-like d--g, increasing the pain tolerance of the submissive as the scene becomes more intense. Producing a sort of trance-like state due to the increase of hormones and chemicals, the submissive starts to feel out-of-body, detached from reality, and as the high comes down, and the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, a deep exhaustion, as well as incoherence. Many submissives once reaching a height of subspace will lose all sensation of pain, as any stimuli causes the period to prolong.(not that this scenario was a BDSM scenario- it has a different purpose/meaning, but the psychological effects could be similar considering the emotional attachment and physical stress involved in the performance)
elijahfan 26,500
Seeing her so raw and looking right into the camera with those teared up eyes really broke my heart She made me think of Joan of Arc
Katie14 4,828
I was just wondering why was she so extremely afraid of this? Robert said on the interview that she was crying and shouting. I mean, it's not the scariest thing she's ever done. For instance, singing at the Oscars in front of millions of people seems like much more frightening than hanging head down. Maybe I miss something or maybe she was crying not because she was scared, but because of all the drama in her life at that time. She was tied up so she couldn't move. All the control of her body was taken away from her. I think being in that position probably brought back memories of being s-xually abused and also being mistreated and taken advantage of by people around her once she became famous. Then she realized that she is doing this by choice. It was her decision to make the art piece. She isn't a powerless victim. Its sort of like she mentally revisited those traumatic situations but now she is the one in control. This in turn heals and liberates her and that is why she started laughing.
Katie14 4,828
Im trying to figure out if the scene of her crying and when she is on the ground with the men around her took place before or after she hung. Does anyone know? And who is that other woman who she is pretend strangling at the beginning?

giskardsb 12,565
The full interview is fantastic. Everyone who complains that Gaga is too arty or pretentious or otherwise complains that she is "trying too hard" should be forced to watch and see how much respect Robert has for her. She really is her own kind of genius.

You are one of the smartest and most insightful members on here. You just don't realize the emotional aspect of what she was doing. I was confused as to why she was crying initially as well.
