Bakery Gets Death Threats After Refusal To Make Anti-Gay Cake

Former pastor Joshua Feuerstein wanted to test something out amid the controversy this week over religious freedom and business rights. He figured if business owners should be compelled not to discriminate against homos-xuals, then businesses should also be compelled not to discriminate against anti-gay Christians.

And so, on video, he recorded a phone conversation he had with Florida bakery Cut the Cake. He asked if they would make him a sheet cake saying “We do not support gay marriage.” The woman on the other end said they wouldn’t do that and hung up. After that, Feuerstein proceeded to identify the bakery in question and made his point about the religious freedom issue.

At one point, he said, “Gay marriage isn’t even illegal. It’s called marriage. If you’re a gay man and you want to be married, guess what? Just go find a woman and get married.”

Feuerstein encouraged viewers to call the bakery and and help “expose the hypocrisy” they’re supposedly engaging in. Well, in a parallel of what happened to Memories Pizza in Indiana, Cut the Cake ended up receiving quite a lot of angry messages, including death threats.

Sharon Haller, who Feuerstein spoke to on the phone, said, “We started getting some hundreds of phone calls and making very nasty and negative gestures towards our business, towards us.”

Feuerstein took down the video at their request, but Cut the Cake posted it online so people could see it, along with a GoFundMe page that has raised, as of this posting, over $2000.

Ah the paradox of tolerance  If only people would ever consider morality  

 

Why dont we just make businesses do what they are supposed to do; serve the consumers and disallow any kind of business discrimination whatsoever? (key word: discrimination ) E.g, no matter your personal beliefs physical appearance or identity (including gender ) you can still buy a damn cake  Either that or just make it a general "you can choose not to serve whoever you want for any reason". Its hard to identify any sort of middle man  If religion said that black people getting married is not legitimate, would we get upset if a bakery didn't want to make cakes for a black wedding? Could we still disguise this as "religious freedom"? I guess some of it boils down to whether or not being gay is a "choice", but even that is such a backwards question because it shouldn't even matter

I wonder what I would do if I was a business and not wanting to get caught up in things.  I would probably prepare some official statement for this type of question wherein I explain that I won't create a cake that is blatantly obscene, offensive or even political or partisan, and then that I won't ask which type of wedding or other event my cake is for and then it should work out fine.

I am tired of stories like this. These homophobes are slowly becoming a minority, and they know it. That's why they try to stir up debates to stay relevant. Nice try, I guess.

​You really think that they're becoming a minority? Because it sure seems like they're still quite a strong force in the world. If you ask me, it seems to be a polarized stance. While activists for equality seem to be rising, conservatives against homos-xuality seem to be equally rising as well, and a good portion of the rest of the world is against homos-xuality as well.
