RANT: This just isn't MY Gaga

ARTPOP > TFM

And to be honest, the whole "mysterious" thing was boring to me because it was so self-conscious. She wasn't like that before TF, and she dropped it pretty quickly thereafter, which indicates to me that she is happier having shed all of that.

She is naturally giving and open as an artist, and the mystery angle always clashed with that. It succeeded in making people curious about her, but it clearly didn't come out of an authentic need to be ambiguous (like, for example, Sia).

I don't get the mysterious thing though  Like, she was mysterious because no one knew who she was/what she's about.  You can only carry that out for so long without sacrificing your artistic integrity.  She felt the need to open up to her fans in her music, and she couldn't have done that without showing what's behind the aura.

I feel like what you guys are missing isn't necessarily the mystery, or grandeur, or whatever. What we're "lacking" is a sense of effortlessness. Someone to look up to who could achieve everything that popped up in her mind.

Since 2011 Gaga has been suffering from more and more "problems" (sales, creative differences, management issues, addictions, malfunctioning teams), that most of the things she does don't seem easy anymore. And whenever things start to get difficult, people get negative feelings about it.

That's why the Oscar performance is so well-received. She didn't bring back "mystery". She returned to her core talent that comes most easily to her, and she nailed it.

What a messy thread :lana:

She will never be the way she was, she is way too old now you know. She lost that thing which made her special back then. We have nice jazz cover songs in exchange though :lana:

What she's proving lately is how limiting  the pop star box is.  She's even more special now.

I already think she went downhill halfway during TFM and especially era-wise during BTW. But I totally miss the 100% in control, performance art TF era. But that ain't ever coming back.

For me it's very obvious: her career died a slow death after the day she decided (to present the idea that) her fans were more important than her craft. Someone who's not delusional enough to "stan" for a pop artist gets tired quickly with a celebrity who's so fan-oriented in speech and action. And that's completely justified.

Everything she stood for during the TF is just thrown out the window. Her core idea was that no one would ever understand her and that she would keep surprising people. She let that crack when she pretended her fanbase had a genuine connection with her and vice versa, and cracked again when she didn't know what else to do when her shock tricks ran out. Sad, truly.

Remember when Gaga lamented the loss of "show biz"? Pics of celebs taking our their trash bags etc?

And now she is that very perpetrator, insta'ing her gardening and grocery shopping. Sigh.

She grew up, evolved, changed...became real. You either grew up with her or you didn't. Maybe some of her fans need a young-minded artist, because that's where they are at and that's how they think. It's not like there aren't plenty of those types of artists out there? Go find one!

How can you be fresh and mysterious for years? After a while you get to know more about someone and see them often and the freshness and mysteriousness dissapears. That's how it works.

It happens to everything and everyone, from new shoes to a new boyfriend. Nothing stays new and mysterious.

A good example here is Rihanna. I mean... She is there... all the time on the scene. But there is 0 mystery about her. I think that Gaga can do better than Riri tho, pull off some cray cray stuff again. When she feels like it.

Never thought about it like this but makes a lot of sense.

I think some people would have preferred Gaga to never get "out of character" or interact In a personal way, like she just hid away any personal life and was just this robotic alien creature that showed up at times and did tight choreographed Pop performances.

I prefer humans.  Otherwise might as well go stan for Hatsuni Miku, which is what many TF fans seem as they'd prefer.

Even Bowie moved on from Ziggy Stardust.
