Yanko 9,860
On the song “Savages”: “I’m not a political person at all, but I am interested in society. And seeing rape culture explode over the past few years and be pretty much in the news every single day is sickening. It’s more about trying to start a conversation on why these things are in our human traits. Because they are natural to us even though it’s really hard to hear. No one wants to say that rape is natural, but it’s something that’s been embedded in us, and it’s horrendous. So that inspired that song.”There's a song on the album called "Savages" about some particularly heavy subject matter. Where did that one come from? For me, it's one of the most important songs on the record and the one that doesn't scream radio single, even though I hope it gets its own release. I was reading an article in the newspaper about the Boston bombing. The journalist said, "It's so hard to reconcile how one man can be running a charity race, while another man is building a bomb to blow this person up." That's how it started, and I think it was more a result about how these same kinds of news stories keep coming up day-in and day-out.For example, the horrendous gang rape of a women in India started an onslaught of other rape stories because it was becoming relevant. Like most of us, I found it so hard to digest and what I wanted to write about in the song isn't condemning these things – even though they have to be condemned – but questioning why these things happen. This is something that is eons old, and it's more about how we deal with the fact that it's a natural, perhaps common trait in man. I think there needs to be another way to approaching this, rather than saying, "Chuck 'em in jail."http://time.com/3745237/marina-and-the-diamonds-froot/http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/strange-froot-marina-and-the-diamonds-on-why-shes-not-pop-20150327

She does not say we should accept it as an aspect of our biology, something we can't control. She acknowledges that it is an issue, and says something needs to be said or done to address this. Goosey 3,017
Is it natural? Simple, just check if there are any other animal species that rape one another. My guess is no. MarryTheSequins 976
Savages is such an interesting song. 'Living behind shirts, ties and marriages'; we can try and live the most socially conventional life possible but it doesn't mean we do not have the potential to commit evil. These urges are innate. Vernier 3,786
Before anyone tries to come for her, her use of the word "natural" here does not mean "good" or "accepted" Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
