The trouble is, Spotify is the only streaming service that's recognised by charts. I'm in the UK and only Spotify counts towards the charts at the moment. If you're not on Spotify, your song won't chart as high, which would be bad news for Gaga trying to make a comeback. Taylor's Blank Space would have gone to #1 in the UK had she been on Spotify - it held the position for just under a week but because her streaming power was zero, she had to settle for #4. Similarly, Rihanna's FourFiveSeconds had to make do with lower chart positions because the tune wasn't on Spotify. This is the price of not associating with the service. If Gaga remains on Spotify, she actually has a chance for hits again. Applause went to #5 in the UK before the inclusion of Spotify streams - it would have got even lower if they had been counted and she wasn't on the service. Gaga MUST stay on Spotify if she has any sense.I remember when she was on Jonathan Ross in 2011 and he brought up how many records she'd sold and how it was amazing that she'd sold so many in the age of piracy. She replied: "Well, yes, I still shift albums but at the same time, touring really is my passion and...how much money do these artists really need? I always go thinking that to myself everytime someone moans about, oh, 'I can't make money off selling albums.' It's like, how much money do you really want? What do you need that money for?" I hope that this is what she very much still believes in, in which case, the money she makes off streams doesn't bother her. I wish more artists had her view. There are only a handful of artists making money today, and that's not from streaming and sales anyway. support your favorite artsist, because if you don't, there's not gonna be any more music.
