Alas, we are not asking all Germans (or all pilots) to stand up and condemn the act of this one individual pilot. Of course they condemn it—how come we don’t need them to say it? There is a word for it: it’s prejudice.

I agree with the article. Not with that part though because there is a different between religion and ethnicity. Muslims can also be German etc.

"I see these as desperately trying to link this with Muslims."

In fairness though, if the pilot had the slightest connection to anything right wing, all the leftists who complain about "Islamophobia" would be jumping to conclusions themselves.

"why even bring religion into this is my main question with that tweet?"

Who besides Al Quada is famous for intentionally crashing planes full of innocent passengers? If it was a suicide (as it looks), mental health among pilots WILL become an issue.

Not really. The victims weren't muslims. And right wingers HAVE killed before.

One of these "patriots" just recently left a bomb in Atlanta, placed a copy of Qur'an and map of Jewish center, trying to set up muslims.

And Al Qaeda represents the whole religion? And a Muslim pilot cannot possibly suffer from mental illness, depression etc.?

And white non-muslim can never commit an act of terror?

Bringing religion up just shows how many bigots we have in the media, when they make assumptions without knowing all the details.

Come on, there have been enough recent cases of religion-inspired terrorism that Joe Average will wonder and speculate about it unless it is addressed. The mainstream media (CNN included) mostly tries to discourage such linkages whenever possible, but extremist deeds keep reinforcing them.

I'm not talking about average Joe. I'm talking about mainstream media. Why is Pat Robertson even allowed to say "what was it about him? Was he a muslim? Was he suicidal?" :wtf:

And "religion unknown" is unnecessary, because even if it's known you have to investigate what the real motive was. It can be anything.

There have been enough recent plane crashes and none of them muslim or terrorist related. That should maybe teach them not to jump to conclusions. ;)

And we disagree on what inspires terrorism in the first place.

Pat Robertson is an idiot. He does not represent mainstream media.

Watch CNN or the nightly news and no one is saying anything like what Pat Robertson said in this instance.

Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. As far as anyone knows, this was a case of a person with mental health issues, and his actions didn't have political aims behind them. The FBI confiscated his computer and anything else personal from his house. In the upcoming weeks, we will learn if there was anything else behind this mass murder.

You don't know the religion of the victims. I'm pretty sure there where people with Muslim background on the plane

I know. I was saying that if the pilot was right winger no one would yell islamophobia, as craig claims, because it's obvious he didn't kill those people because they were muslim or of any other religion/minority.

oh okay, now i get it

I personally highly doubt that he was muslim or even if, it's not mean directly that he wants to do terrorism.

There are new reports that he were highly depressive.

Yeah it seems to be depression and who knows what else, but I wish he'd just taken his own life instead.

I wonder if he planned this in advance.

The fact that HE decided to take away everybody in that plane with him disgusts me... It must be even more heartbreaking for the families

Yes that's true. And I wonder that too. I guess he waited for the chance that the pilot goes on toilet
