This is disgusting to me. I find it sick he's just using the Latino community. He is nothing representative of the Latino community other than his heritage and this is just going add on to the stigma of the darker skinned Latinos who are ignored in favor of light skinned Latinos which is all too common in both the US and Latin America. I can't

Also Latinos in general tend to favor immigration reform and [2], and Ted Cruz has been against it since day one so that's something he will have to contend with. And he can't dodge those questions either; he has repetitively made his position clear.   

He's already getting backlash too:

“We reject Ted Cruz, which is sad, because while he is the first Latino to declare his candidacy, he may be the most anti-immigration candidate  on stage during the debates,” Cesar Vargas and Erika Andiola, co-directors of the Dream Action Coalition, said in a joint statement. “While Ted Cruz has a Latino name and immigration in his past, that’s where the similarities between him and the Latino community end.”

With this in mind, I don't really think he'll get the Latino vote.

Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio have an advantage with Latinos imo.

That's silly. Just because someone happened to be born in Canada doesn't mean they'd make a bad president. Seems a bit xenophobic. In Canada it doesn't matter where you where born to run for PM. If you become a citizen you are a citizen and that's an end to things  

When did I say he'd make a bad president because he is Canadian? I said I wish he would not be able to run because he is Canadian. But apparently he had a US citizenship at birth due to his mother being American. What a bummer.

He'd be the first Latino president if he won.  I prefer a Hilary or a first female president, but compared to most Republicans, I'd be okay if he won.  No more Romneys. No more McCains.  No more Bushes, please. And no more Sarah Palins from Alaska.

The shade of his skin does matter. I don't think it's disgusting that he is light skinned but that he is pandering to the Latino community for votes basically. Why should I vote for someone who thinks that they can convince we are alike when, in reality, we couldn't be any more different. Yes, Cruz, Latinos, and I share a similar upbringing with a parent or parents who came to the States to find a new life. However, Cruz's parents received the education that many Latino parents of first generation Latinos could not because of poverty and social hierarchy. As in anywhere nowadays, those with the darkest skin are most oftentimes found in the bottom rung of the social ladder whilst those with fairer skin and/or European qualities are usually far more successful than those who are dark and indigenous looking or even of African descent

Also, for someone who wants my vote because I am a Latino, you would think it would be someone who advocates for immigration reform, not someone who opposes it. It's absolutely hypocritical when his dad is himself a Cuban immigrant
