And for many the fact that they are gay and considering the industry they work in added more outrage over their statement. IMO, they deserved the backlash and to know that some people weren't going to support them, by continuing to purchase their products. Your brother is free to feel that D&G's statements are okay, but others are free to disagree with them and to express that by how they see fit....whether that was simply speaking out or by boycotting their products. He didn't feel they  were okay he disagreed but they have their own opinion and it doesn't change their work so boycotting isn't really necessary. If they were actually experts in the subject, then it would make sense to boycott but they're not so  speaking out and giving your opinion on what they said, sure but boycotting? Why would you want to continue putting money in their pockets? They have an international platform for their views because they are very successful businessmen. Boycotting them is the only way most people have of showing their disapproval.  It's the same as with any company doing something you think is ethically wrong. You hit them in the only place that really matters to them.
