Jase 13,315
Scott Mills has said that he supports BBC Radio 1's decision not to play Madonna. The DJ said that the station needs to play songs by "more relevant" artists, and that British popstars should receive priority.Radio 1 didn't include the star's latest dance anthem 'Living For Love' on any of its playlists during the run-up to its release, but insisted that it only rules on the merit of the song in question and not an artist's age.Madonna herself branded the move "so discriminatory and unfair", and claimed that "ageism is still an area that's taboo and not talked about and dealt with".Speaking to The Mirror, Mills explained: "I don't actually mind the new single, but do I think Radio 1 should play it? Probably not."They're trying to get the average age of the listener down and, to be honest, most Madonna fans are in their 30s and 40s."When you've got more relevant, up-and-coming artists and bands and there's a space on the playlist, then it's in the BBC Radio 1 remit that it should go to a British artist anyway."So although DJs have no say on what does or doesn't get played, I completely understand why they don't play her."After admitting that he is "slightly terrified of her", Mills joked that "in a couple of years, [he] can go over and play Madonna on Radio 2".He added that although he does not feel ready to leave Radio 1 yet, he would be happy to make the move when the time is right.Read more: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a636747/scott-mills-backs-bbc-radio-1s-decision-not-to-play-madonna.html#~p7vf9zqkKl8Ead

Ray of Light 8,134
Well if Madonna is still the Queen she's so desperately trying to prove she is; she won't need radio & will improvise through different means in order to remain successful in this industry. Or she can stop tarnishing her legacy.

Blue Jeans 3,815
They shouldn't play LFL because the song is horrible not Because Madonna is old... Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen

KARMA 1,022
Isn't that still considered to be ageism tho? the radio generalized madonna's fans to be in their 30s 40s...

Mariann 301
It scares me that people in their 30s and 40s are considered too old to be listeners of a specific radio station.
BoomKack 6,586
I'm sorry but Radio One cannot talk about relevance, they're so behind it's painful to listen to. You know they only picked up on the whole "YAAAAS" thing about 3 months ago? Only a year and a half too late nbd... next they'll be discussing The Dress in 2016.I'm not even a Madonna fan so I don't know why I'm defending her but it's still true that Radio One try way too hard to be relevant when in reality people just have it on in the car cause there's nothing better to do that isn't illegal. Americano 31,061
I mean, her album didn't even go #1 and is plunging out of the Top 15 in the US this week. Nevermind the fact her singles aren't even charting AT ALL. What radio station would play music that's flopping so badly?
